7800 gtx overclocking

ok im running at 430/1150 and i see others are running at up to 470/1250. I took a look at i9kfangui one day after playing oblivion for a couple of hours and noticed my max temp was 104C! i kept checking every so often whilst playing and was gettin in the high 80s (idle like 45). I have no thermal mods or any mods except for a gfx card reflash and my computer has just broken and will not turn back on. However, something fell on it and it shut off and now wont turn back on and so i was curious that maybe the ocing and high card temps were makin the lappy fragile and so when something hit it it broke. So what I am asking is a. what are peoples with a 7800 gtx clock speeds, what are their idle/load/max temps, and what thermal mods they have if any. Finally i am wanting to know if I am to be gaming a lot, is it worth the time and risk of dell voiding my warranty for me to AS5 the CPU and GPU and possibly build some custom heatsinks?

you can AS5 your lappy without voiding. I run 430/1150 with AS5 and just have that pacific breeze for cooling. Idle any where from 48-50, and BF2 multiplayer for hours and hours straight temps were solid at like 70-72. Fear made it hit like 78-80ish. Haven't played Oblivion though.

The biggest factor that will affect your temps is the game itself, its settings, and how intensive it is on your card's shader units. Thats where most of the heat actually comes from. The higher resolution you use and the more intensively the shader units are being used, the hotter your card will get. For example in Oblivion, if you run at native resolution with HDR enabled, that will get you the highest temps. However if you run at 1280x800 with no HDR, it can be as much as 20 degrees cooler. So it really depends. Personally I don't mind the higher temps, as long as its not downclocking. I've found a good OC without downclocking to be 440/1200, allowing me to run native res + HDR without overheating.
