Quake 4: Crash and BEEP and restart

One problem I have is in Quake 4 which has been running fine until I got to just about the end of the construction zone. I am were you have to shoot the rockets to stop been blown up.
I now get a load BEEP and the computer restarts. Funny as it has run the rest of the game fine for long periods of time. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

M170 (770, 2gb) 7800gtx Dell drivers, also tried with LaptopVideo2Go Modified drivers.
Thanks

Sounds like either an overheat or a graphics card crash. Since the whole computer is involved, likely an overheat.

Try a couple things.. make sure you have all updated drivers for all hardware and bios.

Also try the Extreme-G mobile force drivers that tony makes. Never had a problem with them and when my system was crashing from heavy use with standard drivers, these drivers resolved that issue.

Swap your memory modules from one slot to another. Sounds stupid, but it may help.

Thanks for advice.
I was only running Quake at the time, ie no other programs.
Not sure about the heat issue as the game was running fine until this place, even crashes quickly after a cold boot (30 sec into the game).

Unfortunately I couldn't get GForce Tony's drivers to install as it gave an "hardware not found for drivers" error message on installing them. I get the same error message if I try to install the Nvidia website published drivers.
I did try the LaptopVideo2Go Modified ForceWare Drivers, which installed fine, but the game crashed with these to.
Not sure what to do. I might install FanGui and get the fans running faster.
Any more suggestions are very welcome.
Thanks

Sounds like your video card drivers are defunked. I use the GForce Tony's drivers and I have the same setup as you do. No issues upon installing. Get driver cleaner and remove all instances of the dell drivers and the laptop video2go drivers. Then install the latest drivers from Gforce Tony which are...
84.12 v2.30.

They can be downloaded HERE

In all honesty, it sounds like you are having the same problem I was but I didn't have the noise issue.

Still trying the GForce Tony drivers. I now get an error message, at least it doesn't crash the whole OS now. The error message says "the instruction fff000??? could not be read at ?????" ??? because I can't remember the exact figure. After the crash the screen looks washed out/bleached.

I'll have another go with GForce Tony's.
The Driver Cleaner Pro really messed up my system for a while as the OS couldn't load any driver and the display was totally garbled. Had to go into VGA mode, even safe mode was garbled. It does say read the instructions I can see why.

Basically the steps for driver cleaner are as follows..

1 - Uninstall drivers for the video card in windows (normal)
2 - Reboot into safe mode and use driver cleaner
3 - Reboot into windows (normal)
4 - Install new drivers

Now from the sounds of it, I think your drivers have really screwed up somewhere along the lines. If that is the case - it may be beneficial for you to do a full system wipe and start clean. This takes approx 30min to 45mins to get the os wiped out, installed fresh, all drivers installed and then all updates. Then you can start piling on any games/apps you might have.

I did this yesterday because I had installed too many items that were "freeware" and caused issues. I used Tony's drivers and did not have an issue.
