guys i've had my xps gen 2 for a while, and i've kinda quit playing games. I figure i'd make more use of increased battery life, so can i BS my way into convincing dell to replace my motherboard with that of a 9300 with integrated intel grapics?
are there other/simpler cheap options?

sell the lappy, and buy something cheaper would be more cost effective I would think.

Ya and something smaller would be much more convenient, get a 12 or 10inch laptop or tablet pc if all your going to do is surf. Hell if thats the ONLY thing youre gonna do get a PSP. and you'l have the option of playing fun "consoleish" games when you have time to watse on the bus....etc

You can fit an ATI X300 video card, i'm running a 128Mb version in my second M170 at the moment.

This reduces power consumption by quite a bit.

I would say sell it. Right now that notebook is probably worth a fair amount of $$$ for resale. Use the proceeds to buy a smaller notebook with lesser GPU. This way you can upgrade to newer technology (Core Duo), get a fresh battery (your old has likely lost some of its capacity to hold a charge), and you have a new warranty.

i was actually goin to sell it, but i didn't quite get the price i wanted for it. Also a replacement computer with a 63 watt battery costs me around 800, so i didn't wanna give a chunck of my features away to make 800 bucks.

I will trade you my x1400 for your card + cash

A great way to sell it is on eBay. Check finished auctions looking for configurations that match yours. I sold an i8600 on eBay about a year ago and received just over $1500 (it was loaded plus had extras and time remaining on the warranty). Sell it on eBay with no reserve and a $1 starting bid. That is EXACTLY how I sold mine. I think many people make the mistake of using a high start bid or high reserve which scares off bidders.

what about underclocking or somthing wouldnt that increase battery life? using coolbits i guess it would work but perhaps it wouldnt increase battery life to much.
