The State of 100MB 7,200RPM Drives - Page 3

Canadians looking for a good online site with 72K 2.5" hard drives try FrontierPC.com. BC based store that has a special hookup to get things across the border. Usually has very good prices, its where I got I my Seagate drive when they just became available back in early September. Though I paid a pretty penny for it then. I have 2 9300's in my room at the moment (picked up one for a good friend and setting it up for him). Mine has the Seagate drive, the other the Hitachi 7K100. All my benchmarks (HD_speed, HD Tach) have shown the 7k100 to be faster. Though I like my Seagate because of its 5 year warranty and it does seem quieter when I have both configured to Max Performance using NHC. It's really personal preference. I'll consider an upgrade when the 160GB 7200.1 comes out, but who knows then that will be....

Doc, you have a special shipping service to buy off NewEgg and get it to Saba? I have a heck of a time getting parts from the states to my residence in Bermuda (int student). Companies that redirect for you (ship the item to their address and they ship it to Bermuda) charge a nasty premium. I usually end up buying anything I want for the summer now just to avoid the whole procedure.

Not really, just some friends in Florida that I send the newegg stuff too. Today I had stuff FedExed ($100 for a 10-pound box) but normally the people here use a company called 4-Star Freight (I think that's it.) Takes a couple weeks but no one I know has ever had a problem with them. I'm sure it's a lot cheaper than FedEx!

Do you go to med school there? We have a med school here as well.

By residence I just meant my home is there. Fed Ex to Bermuda is enough to make you cry, did a bulk order last summer and I think it was $110 for a 8 pound box. Then there's the 22.5% duty, its killer. It's why I had to pay twice as much for my 9300 compared to everyone else on this board, I guess it's worth it for the beaches...

We paid duty on a lot of things when we lived in the Bahamas. Well, we were supposed to. Whenever we'd fly back in from the States we'd act like tourists in the airport and the Customs guys would never stop us. We went past them with suitcases full of stuff that we'd bought on vacation. Did that for almost 3 years. :-)

No duty here on Saba. None at all. FedEx sounds about the same though.

Oh, and I'll check out FrontierPC.com because a friend of ours is visiting from Canada next month, and I'll probably want to buy a few things and have them sent to her so she can bring them. (I just ordered a Tilley and had it sent to her.)

I think I will be buying the E version cause I run my notebook on AC power all the time as well. Though, based on the newegg feedback the E version received bout 95% less feedback. Guess not to many peeps are aware of the differences.

BTW, I found this thread after posting over at Dell forums http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportf...ssage.id=51960 and was linked over here. So to avoid clutter, I did not start a new thread, thought this is over 4 months old.

And actually, that's not the one I was reffering to. I am interested in the "E" series
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822145100
cause like Doc.Caliban mentioned, I too keep my notebook on AC power at all times.
