9400 wont boot into xp...

my 9400 wont boot into xp. i get the blue screen of death(i think, it is blue with some messages in it. ) it says someting about http.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

**** stop: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xEBB.....)
**** HTTP.sys - address EBB9.... base at EBB....., date stamp .....

all i did was uninstall mcafee and installed the trial version of kaspersky suite. also installed the power calculator from powertoys. also ran ccleaner (as i do once a week). this has never happened before. oh i also downloaded the update for KAV. it was running well before i installed the update. first it would boot in xp then after a few mins it would crash. booted in safe mode and unistalled KAV, omega drivers(thought it was the video driver as it also said that i need to change video adapters) and powerstrip. i also did a system restore. now it wont boot im trying to use the pc restore utility as dell still hasn't sent my xp cd, driver cds. anybody know on what i can do? this is so frustrating as this is my baby...my first laptop any help would be appreciated..

P.S.

it also said something about me not having enough space and that i should try disabling bios caching and shadowing. although this is highly unlikely as i have aprox. 50-60% free space. im doin the diagnostic test now and it seems fine so far.

edit:
did the diagnostic test still shows the blue screen. it now says BAD_POOL_CALLER

if i were you, i will do a fresh installation, and back up
Win XP into a image afterward.

my E1505 just crashed on me tonight and i got it running
in just 20 minutes. i use Acronis True Image 8, fastest ghost
program.

^^^ Great advice, I 2d that idea.

ill do that as soon as dell sends my cds. ive been waiting for 2 weeks and still nothing. is acronis better than ghost? also it seems that kaspersky is the reason why my laptop crashes. did another restore, installed kaspersky, then BAM! the blue screen apprears... said something about driver_irql_..... anyways, whats a good av software? i hate mcafee, would have loved KAV but.... is NOD32 good?

NOD32 is awsome... I highly recommend it.

AVG is good as well but i have had several friends report BSOD memory dumps on fridays when AVG tries to update itself. caution on this one.

thanks pcgeek, ill give nod32 a try. hopefully it wont give me a bsod like kaspersky. although i'm not really sure it was KAV. i did run CCleaner. but i've been doin that even before i installed KAV. i was about to buy the license from too. about the image thing, which is a good option for a noob like me? ghost or acronis? or is there a better one that is also user friendly?

I think it was KAV, I run it and have had a few random bsods with the same error as yours but mine has not ever bsoded on reboot.

i was thinking the same thing. that maybe i fried something or it was a corrupt registry with all the customizations i did. now everything seems fine with NOD32. almost everything is back to normal. all my files are back. although i wish i started with a clean install.

Now don't put off getting a good ghosting program and keep images. It saves so much pain - and it's easy to forget to do it when you are back up and running again.

Yeah i'll back that. Nod32 is great!

I've run NOD32 for over 3 years now. It is worth every penny. I've never had a virus infect any of my machines (caught by NOD32) and I've never had a crash related to NOD32.

dont know if its bec i'm using NOD32 now but it seem to me that im booting up pretty fast considering that i didn't do a clean install im really impressed. and it dropped my running processes from 66 to 50! (damn McAfee ) if all goes well ill upgrade the trial version to full retail. also any suggestions on an easy to use ghost image program? dont know what i should use.
