WOW Account Hacked?

I have this friend that thought power-leveling would be a great idea. Well, turns out that the people/company that powerlevel his character logged into his account and sold everything from all his characters, including EPIC ARMOR and WEAPONS! I wouldn't say this was a true hack/crack because he didn't change his password. He contacted Blizzard without thinking that they may find out his power leveling techique/cheat. Blizzard informed him that they are investigating this occurance and will get back to him.

Chances are, Blizzard will find out that he did have a character power leveled and cancel his account. Would it be worth while for him to close that account and purchase a new license?

Any input would be appreciated. Please keep flaming and smart comments to yourself.

Thanks,

djinn

Not to be rude, but what does this thread has to do with Dell General?

Thats a good question. I figured since I play on a Dell and always come here for help and support, someone might be able to help me.

I apologize that it doesn't fit the 'Dell Genereal' chat rules.

O well, nothing wrong for me. Try posting in the straferight section too.

Not to be a jerk...well its going to come across that way but this kind of like an "Idiot of the Day" scenario. Technically I guess power leveling isn't "illegal" however I'll be suprised if Blizzard puts much effort into the situation since your "friend" willingly gave out his account information.

I would think there would be no reason to get a new license yet. Blizzard may not find out that he was power leveling, so his account may be fine, as long as he changes his password. No reason to spend the money on a new account until he knows his other one is canceled.

And why do people power level anyway? What fun is having a level 60 with great gear if you didn't do any of the work to get there? It's all about the journey, not the destination.

Why not just play the game? Getting to lvl 60 is the fun of the game. After you get to 60 it gets boring, so I don't see a reason to power level.

What is power levelling exactly?

John,

Power leveling is where you pay someone else (usually some 12-year old indentured servent in China) to play your character non-stop for you until you reach some pre-determined level. So basically, you're paying $50 for the game, $15 a month AND some additional fee for someone ELSE to play a VIDEO GAME for you. How dumb is that?!

If anyone would like to pay me to play a game that YOU purchased and pay a subscription fee for please PM me...I mean seriously! Dumb doesn't describe such individuals.

That's what I thought but it seems an odd idea to me...I play games for the enjoyment, it seems to make little sense to pay someone else to do it.

Exactly, I never understood it either. Seems stupid to me, the fun is getting to those higher levels yourself, not just jumping into a game with infinity this and infinity that. Just kills the gaming experience IMO.

As far as your friend, not much he can do but wait and see what Blizzard says. Don't cancel the account until you hear from them.

geez guys, it is obvious why he's PL'ing: he's trying to minimize his dell laptop use, in order to extend the laptop's lifespan.

Oh jeeze now I feel dumb! Your saying that if we all stop using our beloved computer(s) right now that they will stay nice and pretty and last forever?!?

To be perfectly honest, it was a friend. But if you want to think it was me so be it.

Oh yeah, I'm glad you love these threads. Gives me the warm and fuzzies knowing that we have fans out there! Thanks for reading it and replying to my post.

Actually, I've had my new Dell for two weeks and haven't even taken it out of its box! I can't wait to see how much I can get for it when I sell it.

Oh wait...

Actually, to combine the two topics, WoW works FANTASTIC on my E1505 / X1400!
