Sager 5720 - 4 Gig SD card

Thread Starter
I have a 4 Gig SD card that I use in my Samsung I730 & it works great. However... when I try using it in my Sager 5720 it fails. I have a smaller 1 Gig card that works fine. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution?

Thanks,
Packman

Last I tried to use a 4GB card in the 5720, it turned out that the card was fake, reject from the factory... hehehehhe...

Well this one isn't a fake... It works great in my Samsung I730 & I also found out last night that it works with my old SanDisk ImageMate 8 in 1... It just doesn't work when I plug it into my 5720.

I believe the card reader runs off the PCMCIA bus and may be affected by the same bandwidth issues I'm having in my Audigy2ZS Notebook as described in my thread in this forum a couple posts down.

It's a shot in the dark but something to consider.

Just to add to the questioning:

I'm having the same problem with a 2GB sandisk SD card... It workes in a Pocket PC-based smartphone, but the card reader simply doesn't see it...

I just now installed the updated drivers directly from Sager for the PCMCIA bus and the card reader is not doing what is supposed to do: read the SD card.

Maybe that would help you as well, Woody87.

I'm thinking there are serious driver issues with the TI PCIxx21 cardbus controller.

Let me ask you guys this: When you open hardware "device manager" and look in the list do you see these two items listed seperately:

- PCMCIA adapters
Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Cardbus Controller
- PCMCIA and Flash memory devices
Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller

When I look at the drivers....the first item, "Cardbus Controller" lists the drivers as from MS dated 2001 and the second item, "Integrated FlashMedia Controller" shows the correct TI drivers downloaded and installed from the Sager support website.

I don't fully understand the hardware configuration here. I can't get my Audigy2ZS to work in my PCMCIA slot properly but it works with limited functionality. Disabling the "Integrated FlashMedia Controller" in device manager does not disable my PCMCIA slot and vice versa so there must be two controllers? And why does the PCMCIA "Cardbus Controller" not install the correct drivers?

I suspect the inability to read large memory cards may be related somehow to the bandwidth issues I'm having with my Audigy2 card but it's a guess at this point.

Here is another idea....

Navigate to the following folder on your hard drive...

C:\WINDOWS\tiinst

open the file "ticonfig.txt" with notepad

At the bottom, change the value ":2SDSWITCH=0" to ":2SDSWITCH=1"

Save the file.

Try that and see if it works. You may need to reboot first, i'm not sure.

OPS.

Where it is written
the card reader is not doing what is supposed to do: read the SD card.
Should be written:
the card reader is now doing what is supposed to do: read the SD card.

Hey kumaiti, did the .txt edit help you or did the driver update help. I tried the text edit and my 5720 will still not read 2gb cards.

Here we go! Direct from clevo, the fixed driver to recognize 2gb and above SD cards:
