1. how do i turn off HD indexing ?
2. Is AVG Antivirus enough protection for normal internet use ??, should i be putting an anti-spyware on there also (eg Ad-Aware SE ?)

3. Finally, what RAM do i buy for this machine. I did hear it would only go up to around 380 RAM (is that true ?), there are 2 slots for RAM. One of them says 128Mb, the other one isn't clearly marked but i guess that makes it around the 192Mb mark ??. I'm looking on ebay for RAM but i don't know what kind of laptop RAM it is (i.e. what its called). (Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300). Could i just buy 2 lots of 256 ?? (or, would it take 2 X 512, or is that too much for this laptop to take as i'm sure i remember reading that there was a limit ??)

Kind Regards,
Andrew

With regards to RAM, go to crucial.com and feed your computer info in as requested. It will tell you the max amt of RAM your machine will take and what type. Then go shopping there or elsewhere.

Ok...

1) My PC, right click HDD, then properties and the options are in the bottom
2) Yes. For me works fantastic. I´m a very "heavy" internet surfer, and the performance is really cool comparing Viruscan or Norton . Also, updates every single day of the week...

A couple of months ago I acquired two Satellite Pro 4300 computers that had Windows NT installed. As they must have originally have Windows 2000 on them (the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional stickers are still attached), I reloaded them both with Windows 2000. Now both have the same 'choppy sound'. I've spent the last month loading various Toshiba drivers from the US site, the Canada site, and the UK site. I've upgraded the BIOS, I've installed the lastest Windows 2000 drivers and I still have the choppy sound on both, so I guess Windows 2000 just isn't compatible with the Satellite Pro 4300. I'm glad I found this thread, or else I would still be trying. I think I'll just bite the bullet and install WinXP :-(

Steve.
