DVD failed to detect in 6400 BIOS

I have updated the NEC DVDRW 6650 firmware to liggy's firmware. But the BIOS failed to recognize the DVD drive after reboot. The BIOS said error on detecting and ask me to plug the drive firmly and reboot or just press "Esc" to skip the DVD drive detection. I can't use the drive now.

Please help me!

Happened to me as well with an older drive. You used the wrong firmware and now have bricked (made your drive useless) your drive. If you got it thru DELL then DELL will replace the drive unless you explained how you got the drive to fail to operate. Morally speaking this is wrong and sort of a punishment for not doing careful research of course you can be bad this once and send it to DELL. If you got the drive thru a 3rd party sorce such as an online etailer like newegg.com then they may not help you since they are much more aware of how drives like this can be inopperable.

Unluckily when I download the firmware, there is no infomation about firmware version co-relation. I just search the web and found it out in Liggy's web site.

The drive is accessible after I turn the laptop to standy by. Then plug in the drive and turn on the machine. XP is able to detect it. But when I want to flash it back to the original firmware, errors happened.
The drive is cannot be detected in BIOS and it is not bootable. I cannot boot to DOS to flash it again.
I am using binflash in XP. Is there any other flash tools I can try?

Thanks for you kindly help! I saved my semi-bricked DVD drive!
That's how I work it out:
1) Pull out the drive
2) Turn on the laptop
3) After boot up, turn it to standby mode
4) Plug in the drive
5) Turn on the laptop again. XP would be able to recognize it.
6) Use binflash gui to flash it to the original firmware. Error occurs and LED non-stop flashing. XP would unloaded the drive.
7) Rescan new hardware in Device manager of Control Panel. XP would detect it again even the drive LED flashing.
8) Use binflash gui again to flash with the original firmware. This time would have no errors occurs.
9) Completed flashing firmware and reboot.

If anyone got a bricked drive should try to see whether this method will help you to save your drive!
