By the way, they are knocking another $150 off the new units. All I need is a nice coupon, and maybe.... just maybe....

Erik
I run the following games at at least med to high resolution on with a 5200Go 64mb on an SXGA screen. I was ready willing and able to send it back and get one with the Radeon if I could not run the below applications well.
I have nothing bad to say about that V card and I ACTUALLY HAVE IT and still have a couple weeks to send it back and get the Radeon!!

Well Im keeping it!

Call of Duty
FS 2004
Medal of Honor
GTA Vice Cuty
SimCity 4
Max Payne II
MAdden 2003
Tiger Wood 2003

Of course those who paid $200 extra for a V card will say anything less will not work or be able to run today's games. It's human nature.

Thats why it took me so long to research and buy a lappy. No matter what the owners of the bad ass cards said, I would not accept that the gaming companies would sell software that would ONLY PLAY WELL on top of the line 128MB V cards, LCD's and processors. I read the boxes and saw not the "minimum" but "reccommeded" requirenments (which in the old days used to be a dream machine) ask for 32 and 64 mb T&L V cards tops. Nvidia, Radeon and others.

Seek out those who actually have what you are asking about and using it in real application! They are out there. Those running games like Halo, URT, Warcraft and Doom type games may be able to tell you more. I don't play the SciFi or "Fantasy type games. only the real human stuff. Hell Halo runs on year old XBOX's ..I wonder what graphics card is in there?

8600 1.4
512 2700 ram
Nvidia 5200Go 64mb
DVD/CDRW
40 GB 5400 rpm
SXGA
Win XP Home
1 year warranty

As I suggested he should Consider the geforce 4200, 5650, radeon 9600 since he did mention moderate gaming. Ive used the 5200 and even Unreal 2K3 becomes a pain at 1024x768.

I am keeping my eye open for the best deal. I will consider the 4200, 5650, and 9600 first, but will settle for a 5200 if need be.

Its also Human Nature to suggest that your vid card you are using is great, the lowest priced or highest price. That said please try before you buy, Its not their op that counts its yours.

Everybody going to try and sell you on how great their system is, the ones that only spent 1200 and those that spent 2000 plus, None of that makes any diff. again its you who must like it.

30 day return is a great thing....

Actually, refurbs are 14 day returns. That means I have ONE day to decide if I like it or not (You have to factor in the invoice date and how many days it takes dell to get you an RMA. I figure 3 to 4 days to get an RMA).

I agree Dell-Machina. I cannot and do not speak for those types of games since I do not play them. I can and do only speak for the games I specifically listed in my posts. I do not play the fantasy, SciFi, or Warcraft type games.

I know my game list does not represent the most popular ones out there and I try not to make a blanket statement about the 5200 being great in all situations.

Some games run in 800X600 GTA Vice City I think. It still is a great experience and an addicting play for sure. I have run Call of Duty in max resolution fine though with an occasional hiccup. I run mt games in med to high depending on the game and what I want to see. FS 2004 definatly on the high side, although the default is medium.

You know, since I am able to upgrade the video card on the 8600, I may just get one with the 5200 (a little over $1200 at the outlet) and try it out and if it does not work out I can 1. Send it back or 2. get a new vid card.
