oblivion addiction.

Thread Starter
so here's the problem with oblivion.. i can't stop playing.. i'm putting 6-10 hours in a day on top of full-time college and part time work (almost full time.. getting a lot of hours these days so i can afford to live..). It's getting very exhausting and taking over my life. In the past 3-4 days, I've made up about 5 excuses to get out of things (places with friends/family, etc) just so I can go home after school/work and play the game. I was up until about 5 in the mourning playing when i finally fell asleep. I woke up 4 hours later and started playing again.

I'm not asking for help or anything.. I trust most everybody's opinion on the forums, but if i wanted that kind of help, I'd contact a brain doctor. I was just curious how the other oblivion players around cope with RL when playing oblivion is not possible. I'm sure I could stop if I wanted, but it's not really hurting anything. I still talk to my family and friends, and they know me enough to know that i'd usually rather chill at home(or else where with people) than go out somewhere, but I've been a little less social since i've been playing.so much.

Again, I'm sure I could stop if i really wanted, but it's just soo much fun. With Summer coming up, it should be easier to focus on things aside from the game. Swimming is awesome and a trek through the woods on a cool rainy summer day is always something to look forward to.

But how about the rest of you? Oblivion seems to be the most addictive game by far since Tetris Attack on snes.

If you got addicted to Oblivion, never play a MMORPG ever.

you realize that's what all addicts say, right?

seriously, 6-10 hours a day is way too much time to do anything except make a living. google computer addiction or video game addiction for help.

really.

If you think it is a problem, then chances are it is.

Uninstall and find a new hobby.

I find nothing wrong with spending a large amount of time playing the computer. As long as you are not neglecting your job, your health, and those you love.

Yeah I noticed that I was playing a bit too much. I'm in college and I decided to stop playing. It wasn't that hard. I stopped playing sometime last week or the week before. I can't even remember when the last time I played was. I thought about it this way. While your character is getting more athletic, you could be getting more athletic.

It's not actually about exercise. You could be getting better at something besides a video game. Lately I have just felt that I have been wasting my time playing games. I have been playing a lot less recently and from what I have noticed, it is a good change.

I am not trying to say that you shouldn't play games, but that games shouldn't take over your life.

However, I actually did like Oblivion before I stopped playing. I liked the storyline and all the other side missions, but I just feel that I would spend too much time on the game.

In 1998 I ran 9 Quake II servers out of my living room from a 600-pound Apex server rack. I had free 2 megabit DSL before the phone company even sold DSL. I played Quake II online ~20-30 hours each weekend, and ~6 hours a day during the week. I played CONSTANTLY. I finally went cold turkey and shut everything down and sold all the systems.

Earlier this year I bought WoW and played it non-stop for a week. I stayed up WAY too late, and it's all I did on my days off. I got up in the middle of the night, deleted my character, and canceled my account. It was fun, but I don't miss it and I know it would have been a mess if I'd kept it. I just don't have the self discipline.

Now I live on a small island with nothing to do after my day of diving, er, "working", so I'm looking forward to some long nights playing Oblivion. I should have it some time this coming week. But I know I'll get hooked too. It's just that it won't really hurt my life right now so it's OK.

usually it's when your eyes dry up and stop focusing that you should probably consider laying off the game

I've never really been "addicted" to video games, more so I am "addicted" to the hardware to run it on. I am an avid LAN gamer and as such I am ALWAYS upgrading my system to be able to play the latest and greatest. I ALWAYS buy the latest and greatest, but the problem with me is I never actually play them. I play one or two games at LAN's and the rest of my collection sits at home on my shelf, looking pretty. I think the game that I've played the longest was WoW. But even that I stopped playing after about 6 months. I've played almost every game out there (for PC) and yet I get bored quickly and move on without completing them.

So my advice to OP is to take a break from playing and enjoy life. If after a week or so you feel that you CAN NOT live without playing Oblivion, delete it, sell it, and think about getting a different hobby.

I have the 360 version and my wife only allowed me to buy it after I promised her my gaming hours were gonna be after-hours (after 10pm after her and my 3 yr old daughter falls asleep).

I spent soooo much time on Morrowind itself, we had a big fight one day and my wife simply destoyed the game disk. Gaming is fun but its still a fantasy and there IS that line between fantasy and reality.

When the USA sinks into the largest depression ever known on Earth and the FRN (US Dollar) collapses because we make nothing and have ever increasing defecits, and when Bush starts WW III when he invades Iran can I rent a room from your house on the island?

Just go and finish the game and once you do that you will be fine... I was addicted to World of Warcraft (WOW), but once I hit 60 I lost interested. Guess I just wanted to hit 60.

Just enchant 5 pieces of armor with 20% chameleon each. You'll find the game gets really old really fast when enemies don't defend themselves and you can steal stuff right in front of people without them batting an eye (you don't even need to be in sneak mode).
