Connecting to AOL broadband without using their software..

..is this possible? I need to be able to connect via a BB usb modem in order to get access to a small no of sites my wireless router has taken a sudden dislike to. However, I loathe the aol browser and I'm wondering how i can set the computer up so I can connect using firefox. Any ideas? I've read it's possible to use the modem settings (BT Voyager 105 and BT Voyager 100 in this case) in this case. I need to get both modems working (not at the same time, obviously) since it would allow me to connect to the internet at my parents on my own laptop.

do they still do that (using only proprietary softw.)?!? I remember that I used AOL when I was in US some years ago, and it was a pain to connect to their dial up using standard softwares... i need to send carachters through the line using modem commands, like some code with my real username and password, as opposed to aol/aol just to connect. may not be the case, though...
