i am trying to install windows xp pro sp2 onto my laptop and it does not seem to be working.

I boot for the disk and it loads up and everything, lets me format my hard drive and then load the setup files for xp..but when it restarts to actually install windows... it just reboots from the cd and goes to the format thing again..

and i can't try to load from hard drive cause it says there is no OS, duh haha..

anddd uh yea i heard it might be bios... idk

ne suggestions??

shouldn't be a hardware limitation whereas i am running XP Pro SP2 on my T23 without any issues. it was a clean install. just had to be sure to install ThinkVantage to take care of all the hardware drivers.

Stupid question, but was the laptop working before? And what was the OS if it was?

yea, it had ummmmm windows 2k on it... it was my moms work laptop... im wondering if it had something to do with that =/

That shouldn't change a thing. Only thing I can think of is a bios issue but that will usually just not allow you to boot from a cd. Do you have any other OS to try to load in? Like a linux distro or a 2000 cd? Have you used this xp cd on another computer before?

I havent delt with an ibm but check the boot order which i think you have already. Check the setings for the hard drive. See if the bios is seeing the hard drive correctly. Hope that helps.

make sure to install thinkvantage when the install is done, it will make setting up hardware drivers just that much easier. also batterymeiser is good control your power settings.

While its booting it normally ask you to hit any key to boot from CD. This is from the windows cd itself... You hit the key first time you do it. But the 2nd time it does this don't touch anything and it should setup windows xp.

If this doesn't work maybe you have a faulty CD?
