The 8100 was built really well and just won't die. The two batteries I have for it STILL work well. Gotta love Dell.
Whoa, same here, just that i went straight from 8100 to gen-2 :P.

Ehm.. ok, so the first game is Oblivion Tomb Raider Legend (first time I hear of this game), but what is the other game?

Oblivion and Tomb Raider Legend are graphically great games, but they are also not very well optimized AT ALL. Especially Oblivion. Hopefully this trend won't continue.

I mean, check out Quake 4. I think it looks friggin awesome at 1600x1200 with everything fully maxxed... and it runs buttery smooth ~ 60 fps with a 7800gtx. Half-life 2 also still looks quite amazing, especially the Lost Coast with HDR.

Our 9300 will definitely be mid-high range until the end of the year. Remember that you are investing in a laptop, for mobile gaming... if you want constant top end graphics, then get a desktop, definitely easier to upgrade. Of course, if you are ebay savvy, you might be able to flip your gaming laptop, and get an new notebook for about the same cost difference as upgrading a top end desktop video card... so who knows... ok, I think I'm rambling.

I checked the plug that goes into the cursed connector and it *seems* that if you stick it in and just squeeze the graphics card onto it, it should work.
The wires bend quite well and are alle insulated till inside the actual plug.

I admit that installing the cover's plug first and THEN the videocard might be a real pain, but it does not seem to be impossible, just hard.

(and let's be honest, once you get it in there, you're gonna leave it there so it's worth the huffing and puffing to squeeze it in).

heres what i plan on doing.
holding on to my desktop till the 2008 summer and laptop as well since i just dont see an urgent need to splurge untill theres some new revolutionary technology on the market and with the money i will theoretically save from not splurging on a new m1710 system or new pc until vista rolls out i plan on getting a nice 37inch tv and the ps3 ( and yes i realize this will run me about 2,000 BUT it is a TV whihc i will use for more than 5 years and the ps3 will keep playing all its games whitout worrying wheter u can run it with hdr on max res)

and by the way i just dont see the neeed to be constantly playing games at max settings, thats just me

*my 2 cents

so that connector is only for the status leds and the power switch? does everything else fit in ok? i thought there was some issue with a keyboard support.

And what exactly does that have to do with the topic of this thread?
