line on my LCD

I am thinking of buying two Dell Latitude C600 laptops.
They both power up and work ok, but they both have a line running from top to bottom at the side of the screen.
The guy selling them says they probably have bad flex cables.
If they can repaired without my having to buy new LCDs it would be a good deal. I could use your input before I decide to buy them or not.

He said that, eh?
& why do you suppose he's got two of these things?
It's not that common a problem, and my guess is he got one, looked into getting it fixed, couldn't, kept it lying around while he figured out what to do with it, and as several other laptops passed through his hands, he found himself with yet another one with the same problem.

-He's a dealer, right?
If he's a dealer, he knows exactly what's wrong with them. If it really was as simple as a 14 dollar flex cable, don't you think that for the fourteen bucks & twenty minutes each it would take to fix them that he would, as his return would be several hundered dollars?
Businesswise, we're talking the possibility of close to a thousand dollars an hour for his investment of twenty-eight bux & forty minutes.

...But that's just me being really cynical.
