radeon 9600 pro turbo for inspiron

I called the dell rep and dug my way down the b.s. and found out that the product code for a radeon 9600 pro turbo 128mb is H3251. If they have it in stock they may sell you one. haha, I answered my own question I guess.

Don't count on that completely .. Yes they might sell it to you but less chance of it working right .. Say that you do get it to fit in the computer as far as I know there are no BIOS's for the 5150 that support the ATI 9600 card ...

so you mean to say that there isnt any upgrade to getting a better video card for my just bought 5150? I am new to laptops, and I think that a fx 5200 is good for now, and any super demanding games I just play on my desktop.

You cant just replace the video card on a laptop? please explain why!

The 5150 unfornetly has a design flaw. If youve noticed anything then you will know that this is probabaly one of the lighter Pentium4 laptops not to mention smaller than most competitors this comes with a flaw. The video card has little active cooling and no vents on top of this 8600 inspiron cards will not fit in thr 5150. even if they could one of the biggest walls Dell ran into was heat with the system due to little ventilation.

Basically the best you can expect in the future is the Radeon 9600 vanilla 64mb or the radeon 9200 64mb thats about it

oh, so that is why. I was wondering that. I guess I shouldnt of bought so hastily then right? - oh well, maybe in the next 6 months a great advance in technology will come out to revolutionize this laptop stuff, till then, I guess I have a really expensive dvd player (haha) right? Schucks, guess I wasted my money. well, I guess I could buy another one... for hmmm... 3000 dollars? I dont think so. Good thing my dad works for compaq.

Actually the 5150 is being replaced in 2 months i advise you return your 5150 for the 8600 if you still can

Call Dell and see if they will work with you since you are over there. Just tell them your situation and they may extend the ship back time. Doesn't hurt to ask. Play the game, America loves GI's right now.

A little advice from a retired Air Force guy

I try to look at it from the opposite angle when I buy a laptop .. I go off the realization that laptops are not hardly upgradeable .. So I look at what the options are when I purchase ... No matter what laptop you buy there is no guarantee the company will ever relaese hardware upgrades so you have to make sure what you get that your happy with as a FINAL product....

When I got my 8600 there was no ATI 9600 option .. And at no time did I ever expect Dell to release on for this laptop.

I hope Dell can work something out with you on a return if you go that route .. I think that as long as you set up the return within the 30 days you still have 10 days to actually get it in the mail and have it postmarked .. I'm trying to remember from when I sent my 8500 back ..

It was ok .. I liked it when I was there .. It got worse when I left as they were closing Ft. Devons, Massachusetts and a lot of people we flooding the area and housing got really bad. I heard the town there (Sierra Vista, Az) got kinda trashy .. But my Ex wife lives there now and says its getting a lot better and is pretty nice now .. I guess the economy caught up to the population ..

Good luck with the flying.

yeah, I am in Iraq. I am currently waiting on my dell to get here, and dodging RPG's and IED's in the meantime... man Its either really hectic, or really boring - not in-between at all.

I am in a palace right now, and we are in the process of getting our satellite server to work. Hadji charges 2 bucks an hour for internet, and with nothing to do, and lack of other sources of entertainment, I often find myself playing on the internet and racking up my bill! If any of you contracter dudes know anything about the satellite server that is contracted by the army, would you let me know where to set the satellite? that would be cool.

I am a tanker in the new 'high speed' stryker brigade. I am somewhere around Mosul, exact whereabouts cant be said, but if you want a general picture of where I am - goto www.globalsecurity.org and check out iraq facilities and look at any place with Mosul as their location. Take care and to all them deployed brothers and sisters out there, take care and keep your head low.
