Yes, I admit: I've gotten a little snarky on the issue (which is actually unusual for me). Knownuts, glad to hear that you're happy with your 8204! ;-)
Wynand32, your are "spot on" - any
computer forum has a fair share of problem reports, but my 0601 build has been perfect, and after seeing the same half-dozen posters reposting the same complaints, ad nauseum, in one forum thread after another (on both "notebookreview" and "notebookforums"), Acer's percentage of "lemons" is, I think, no worse than anyone elses. (Having multiple Macs, both desktop and laptop, and 2 sons with PC's, Dell and Sony, I read multiple forums that show a very similar pattern - some people really do get lemons, but it's a tiny minority, and the rest are too busy enjoying/working on theirs to camp out on the forums complaining!)
I do appreciate hearing about problems that various people have with their laptops - I've learned alot here! But it's unfair (and inaccurate!) to generalize from a handful of buyers' problems and label Acer as a "bad" company, with "bad" products and "bad" customer service. It just ain't so!
Almost 3 months after getting my 8204, I still find no
competing company's products offering this much laptop, for such a reasonable price. I wouldn't trade mine for anything out there.
