Hi, just wondering if anyone could give me some advice or point me in the right direction.
I own an Aspire 1703 (still uses drivers, hardware and software for the 1700 series) and have started to notice that lately the battery seems to drain even when the laptop has been left switched off. To test this was the case I would connect it to the mains and fully charge it before turning it off and disconnecting the power, if I then leave the system in it's case for between 12 and 24hrs and switch it on I can expect to be greeted by the XP battery life indicator reading around 20%. I find this rather strange and annoying but I'm new to notebooks being a desktop user for so many years, and do not know if this behaviour is considered normal or the result of a defective battery.
So I've been considering replacing it, but recently saw a technology show on TV previewing some ultra slim notebooks by Gateway et al, the presenter mentioned that several batteries were available for them; the default battery provided around 2-3hrs of battery life which seems to be the average as far as I've read (my Aspire lasts about the same), but they also mentioned that Gateway sold batteries with more "cells" in them which lasted for increasing amounts of time, the most expensive one lasting for near enough an entire work day. So what I wondered was if Acer also sell similar for their notebooks, and if they do is it possible to get a higher capacity battery for my 1703? I've tried some Google/Froogle searches but haven't turned up anything to suggest they are available, but then I really don't know what I'm searching for; whether they'd be calld multi-cell batteries or have some other psuedonym I'm unaware of. If anyone could answer these two questions for me I'd be very greatful.
