Hey All,

Looking for a notebook with the following specs

Pentium M considered but Core Duo prefered (1.8ghz+)
14.1" (1440x????)
80-100gb 5400/7200rpm hdd
x1600/7600 128/256mb (dedicated not shared)
battery life 3.5-4hrs +
dvd burner w/ dl support
windows xp pro
option for 3+yrs of warranty (3yr standard even better)

with the above specs the one unit that i have been able to find would be an ibm t60.. anything else compare...

hp??
asus??
lg??
toshiba??

i think you get the idea...

thanks again for all your help!

An Intel PowerBook fits the bill, 'cept that it's 15.4 and not 14.1. You'd need to supply your own copy of Windows, however. http://www.apple.com/macbookpro

I have thought about doing the mac route and running bootcamp or something... I would like to wait till the software matures more... Anandtech recently did an article on it and it doesnt seem like it is quite ready for mainstream... I could however prob just use osx for a while... Really dont want the extra wait of 15.4 vs 14.1 though.

The Asus W3J is a 14" with a WXGA(1280x800, I think). You can't any higher resolutions on a 14" screen, then you have to go higher to a 15"+. All the other specs fit the Asus W3J.

the t60 14.1 is 1400x1050 or something... there is higher than 1280x800 on 14" screens...

Oh, yeah. But the T60 is quite expensive...it's your choice after all.

I find it strange that only IBM would provide the higher resolution screens.. I thought HP had some models with high res 14" screens to?? Nothing from acer, sager, lg, etc??

I think that Dell has got something...but not sure.

You can always replace the screen anyway.

really dont want to buy a notebook just to spend another 600+ for a screen replacement.... doesnt make much sense to me.... I guess if money was no object it would work though

Are you going to be gaming? because you say the x1600 which is the top of the line ati gpu in laptops which can play games very nicely. Also look at some sonys, they get good battery life and most of them have small screens

just a small correction: mrx1800xt is the top, mrx1900xt should be coming out soon anyway.

But the mrx1600 performs very nicely

primary use is not gaming but i want a dedicated graphic card.. even x1400/7300 would be enough.

Bootcamp is just a selection of drivers and an interface to partition the drive. Windows will install without any problem as long as the computer has the latest firmware update. In the next version of OS X, it's rumoured that virtualisation will be built into the OS turning Windows into the same thing as Classic Mode on current PPC Macs.

The Intel PowerBooks are 5.6 pounds...how much lighter is a 14 inch notebook?
