I Bit The Bullet!

Well I just couldn't wait any longer, so I just ordered my new Sager from Adam at PCTorque.

As I am not a gamer and don't need mine to be quite as high tech as some of the rest of you, so I ordered:

8887-C with the 2.4GHz CPU; 1024MB RAM, 40GB @5400 RPM and of course the 16.1 inch UXGA screen.

I'll share thoughts with all when it arrives, hopefully by the end of next week.

Thanks everyone for sharing info about this machine.

John,

You will really be happy with your 8887 and the 16.1" display. I have for the most part of the evening been comparing my 8887 display to my Gateway 18.1" LCD display. While the Gateway is amazing and brilliant, the 8887 is almost as good looking. The difference is the 2" on the Gateway. This gives it an edge over smaller displays but the Sager is much more clear. Side to side viewing is about the same.

I looked at a bunch of photos I touched up in Photo Paint with the Gateway and yuck! The 8887 found every defect in the images. Now I have to redo the photos.

I recently purchased a USB 2.0 external hard drive enclosure and installed a Maxtor 80 gig drive for use with the Sager. I copied all my software I want to install and I have to say that the Sager sucks data up faster then I can give it. The external drive was on my AMD 533 with USB 1.1 and yes, it was a little slow. A 100 mb file took 2 minutes to copy from the 533 and just a blink of the eye with then 8887 on USB 2. I keep finding myself more amazed with the 8887.

One note on the file copy/move animation window. The Sager is so frickin fast the animation is not seen. Whooooa! But then again, I was using a 533 MHz system. This puppy at 3.06 MHz is like a rocket ship.
