Case Airflow help

red=fans; the bottom rectangular black block=video card (X1900 XT(X) w/ stock blower)

the case fan under the drive bay is a 75.7cfm fan that is basically blowing directly into my Radeon's blower which runs at 100% speed. the top exhaust fan near the CPU (stock AMD HSF) is a 86cfm case fan. previously it was a 30cfm 2500rpm fan.

my case doesn't accomodate 2 outlet fans, so i'm stuck with this configuration. what do you guys think? previously with my slower 30cfm fan with the case on the temps were warmer than without the case. will the 86cfm fan alleviate this problem?

Cut more holes in it!

Honstely I have no idea.

how important is it to have two outlet fans? can running closed case potentially be more efficient than open case?

I know that you want to have case pressure meaning that more air is going in the coming out. That way you dont suck a bunch of dust in all the cracks in your case and clog everything up but that is about it.

anyone else have any comments? :-\

whats wrong with the way it is now?

the 30cfm exhaust fan and closed case caused the temperature to be warmer than open case...

well, upgrading to higher cfm outtakes wouldn't hurt then. That 30cfm seems to be killing you. Is it 120mm? I never buy a case if it doesnt have 120mm fans.

The original ATX spec from Intel calls for two fans. One at the power supply facing down sucking air up and out. The other fan is in the bottom front drawing air in to pass up and over the motherboard and CPU to the PSU fan. Thus the cooler air rises as it heats and gets blown out the back of the PSU. An additional fan out the back should not be needed and could increase the negative pressure inside the case resulting in poor cooling and increased fan turbulence and noise.

well, screw intel, my amd rig with its case doesnt have that intake right over the cpu

Many PSU's don't have the large 120-130mm fan like Intel wanted for ATX. Some do however. You need to shop around. There are some on Newegg such as the aforementioned HiPro PSU's. Thermaltake and SeaSonic also have the large fans. In my view it really doesn't matter that much as long as the PSU is blowing air out the back. Since the PSU is already mounted at the top any hot air that rises to the top of the case WILL get blown out so long as that is the only exit for the air.

yeah, im getting that (sig) but i was talking about the intake fan over the cpu.

Im also going to have 1x 120 intake, and 1x 120 exaust in addition to 120mm psu. Will that be good enough?

Too much noise and negative back pressure. Remove the rear 120mm fan. if you have more air going out than coming in you will get fan turbulence which means more noise.

these fans are quiet. also, there is a filter on the intake fan so dust wont get in.

Also if you have more air going out than coming in you will have dead spots on your motherboard. Some components may heat up more.

well, this is my total fan configuration (or will be when it arrives).

1x 120mm exaust
1x 120 PSU exaust
1x 120 intake w/ filter
zalman 9500 pointed towards exaust fan
1x 80mm over ram/mobo
7900gt co fan

The P160W is a good looking case. I am sure it will work out for you. The only reason I never picked one up is because the aluminum amplifies high frequency noise. With Raptors that can't be good.
