There is a official manual on www.dell.com for the XPS M1710. It shows the XPS M1710 as looking like this -

The keyboard is a different color than thought. I thought you all would like to know Here is a link to the manual: http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...n/om/om_en.pdf

I think the touchpad having the XPS logo in it is a nice touch, but I have also read rumors that it will light up while in use? Anyone know if this is true?

many prefer it to not have a number pad, since adding it moves the keyboard off center of the screen. (just get a usb one? )

I think it looks awesome I didn't like the look of the M170. Now the M1710 is something I would buy!

NOPE...The touchpad does NOT light up. If you read the manual for it (provided in the link above) you will notice that it mentions it as a SILKSCREEN....

One can dream though...

Actually the touchpad does light up. The XPS (the lettering) on M1710's touchpad is backlit red..

In the XPS M1710 manual, it doesn't show it being backlit. Do you mean the XPS M170?

Really? I looked at the manual and it doesn't look like it lights up

i think the whole package would look better if they darkened it up and gave it the same black keys as its inspiron cousins.. maybe backlight those a la macbook pro. honestly, is a backlit touchpad that big of a deal to you guys?

I can't tell. Is that paint light silver or white?
looks silver to me

I dont see any difference in it and the 9400 cooling wise(no extra vents in the chasis). certainly interesting.

I think it would look better against a backgrround that wasnt pure white, so I will withhold judgement till we see it out and about
