Looks like a few confirmations of the touchpad lighting up on this thread! Aong with my seeing a review yesterday that also said the same thing, I will be hard pressed to rely on the manual.

As for the silver colour - the more I think about it, the more satisfied I am with my choice of Metallic Black over Formula Red. The red case cover can work. But Black with that tone of silver has a few more style points in the land of geekdom IMHO. The current incarnations of the XPS will never epitomize style, but at least they have garish-glare in the dark going for them. For me, the black variant is a little more reserved and sits more comfortablely alongside spraypaint-silver.

Still, around May 4 I should be able to see for myself and make my own personal decision *grinz* However, in the end, I am less concerned about the colour of the case than I am about the potential 10k+ 05 marks *rubs hands*

You can turn the Touchpad light on and off thru the latest QuickSet app. Only color is red though, no color changing the touchpad.

i wonder if you could order the touch pad and get it to work in a m170 or m140, now that would be cool

Those blue LED's irritate the living crap out of me. They look cheap.

Dell supplies the touch pad as part of the whole wrist rest. Which means you'd be getting the whole top cover. You could possibly pry the touch pad off the bottom of the 1710 palm rest and attach it to the m170. I would think the connection would be indentical.

i believe it has an extra Molex connection for the led's on the touch pad than our m170
