One more time...

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I posted in here, but I have some news on my emachines 6811. I originally bought an emachines 6809 way back in April of 2004, got the hinge problems, took it into BB and they gave me a 6811 since the 6809 was DEVO. Then the new 6811 had hinge problems, sent it directly to emachines for a quick fix and everyhting was good until last NOvember. Playing a little world of warcraft and poof, no more screen. Actually it was just a very jumbled screen. I figured the video card was shot, so I took it to BB and they sent it in for repairs to put in a new video card. 3 weeks later, got my 6811 back. Worked OK for a couple of days and then random shut downs started. Took it into BB, they figured it was a motherboard issue. Sent in to the tech plac and they replaced the motherboard. Yay. Last week I noticed the fan was always running and then all of a sudden one morning, random shutdowns began again! Take it into BB and they figure it's a cpu fan issue, sent it in again and they replaced the cpu fan. Finally got it back this weekend and all seems in working order. Now the kicker (sorry for the long winded background), if I have one more hardware related issue, I can get store credit for the original price I paid for this machine and pick up a new pc!! So my questions is what would you guys recommend? I used to use this 6811 for gaming, but I recently picked up a new desktop so I no longer need a gaming notebook. I use this PC mainly at work for Photoshop and data analysis type stuff. I think I might go more towards a lighter PC (this thing is a beast to lug around with the AC adaptor etc). Any suggestions?

Update.... just sent in the 6811 for random shut downs again.... now they replaced the CPU but Best Buy claims that the fane replacement was actually only a fan cleaning and therefore didnt fall under the hardware replacement. This means that I do not get a new machine until I have another hardware issue...arghhh. I am ready to move on from this computer. What a pain.

sorry to hear that you're having so many problems. I'm kinda in a similar boat. One more repair for my 6805 and they give me store credit as well. I could take it in now with the screen flicker problem, but I'm hoping to upgrade to and X2 based laptop or maybe holding on to this one until Vista is released.

If gaming isn't a top priority and you aren't worried about 64Bit computing then you might want to go for a core duo model.

The core duo supports 64-bit extensions.

My bad ... I thought EMT64 was going into Yonah. Upon further reading, they locked it (even though it is there). http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/intel...ers-153822.php

yes I am going on a 3rd return right now for a 7510Gx series. If I have one more problem with it, I will file for no lemon. The issue is screen flicker.

I would definitely get some thing small and light if you're lugging it around.
I thought my 12" IBM (work provide) was heavy until I start lugging mine around.
I'm glad to go back to the IBM after over a week.

Too bad BB not carrying MacBook, other wise I would recommend that.

AJL-

How did you get Best Buy to do that? I got an MX8734 in April '07 and dropped it a couple of months ago. The BB new guy (sent over by big fat guy telling stories at the end of the counter) said that my 3 year protection plan doesn't cover screen replacement.

I left before I snapped at him. I don't know if I'm cool enough yet to go back and talk to the lead guy.

Have a great day today and a better day tomorrow. Stay safe, and may God bless. I wish you His peace.
