M 140 Front side bus

post #1 of 12

New M140 . How do I know the front side bus this notebook?
EVEREST Home Edition show:
On Motherbroad section:
* Real Clock: 133Mhz
* Effective Clock: 133Mhz
(No multiplier show)
While CPU show in Overclock section:
* CPU clock: 1994.95 (original 2000MHz)
* CPU Multiplier: 15.0x
* CPU FSB: 132.99Mhz (original: 100MHz, overclock: 33%)

What is exactly FSB?
post #2 of 12
FSB is the speed at which the processor communicates with other components on the motherboard. The FSB of the M140 is 533 MHz, or 133 MHz quad-pumped.

Thanks XPSM140,
But why it does not show multiplier (x4) as CPU? and How about your M140? is it the same?
post #4 of 12
Yup, it's the same. I don't know why it doesn't show as x4, but I know that's what it is from various technical reviews. Plus, the Intel 915 chipset is 533 MHz. It must run that fast.

Thanks again,
I am concerned it because in system properties sometimes it show :"processor 2.00GHz 798MHZ 0.99GB of Ram" sometimes it show:
"processor...318MHZ........of Ram" OR " prosessor...1.99GHz...of Ram". Why is number bettween processor and Ram random change? Is it normal ?

goes from 2ghz to 800mhz to save power when on battery
post #7 of 12
Sometimes Windows gets confused because of the dynamic switching between speeds as Cirthix mentioned. It'll display those random numbers. The RAM should only change when you add or remove modules.

It does this also when plugged in. The laptop "throttles" down (mine often reads 797 MHz when surfing the net or idling) to conserve power, battery or not. Just one of the ways that makes this notebook excellent in terms of power consumption. Less power, lower heat, longer batt times, all these apply to the M140. Throw in some undervolting and you can get some serious times out of the battery.

Thanks,
Yes, the CPU speed showed random changes only Battery mode.
Power mode alwway showed 1.99GHz or 2.00GHz.
However, what is effective when we select "Power schemes" in Power Options Properties? What is setup the best for laptop?
Sorry for these question because this is a first notebook I have.

You're right doveplay,
I found it also changes in power mode.

i have a toshiba satellite, which is one year old. a few days ago i sent it to repair and under warranty they fixed my adaptor problem but they also fixed another problem which i wasnt aware of.

then i found out they had to recall a system part. my toshiba has 2 big fans, which used to run all the time before, no matter what i did. so basically it made quite some noise. but now after i got it back from repair, neither fans are even ON when im doing normal stuff. i have never seen any laptop this quiet in my life. it also stays extremely cool.

i find this quite surprising as the laptop has a 3.07 Ghz Pentium 4 512MB processor, and 15.4 inch screen.

they prob upgraded the bios so the fans kick on at a certain temp
