8890 VPU fan woes

Has one disassembled their 8890 to the point that they can find the VPU fan? While not sure, I'm fairly confident my VPU fan is in dire shape. I used to get a grinding noise when I cranked the fan-speed using one of the 3rd party programs. It stopped one day, and I noticed the machine ran fairly hot even after cleaning the heatsink, using a new coat of AS5, and every other trick in the book.

Lately, during graphic intensive games, the machine locks up which requires a hard reboot to correct. Even then, the machine is running at blazing temperatures after I reboot. Even if I go back into the game after a meltdown, I only get another 2 minutes or so.

Has any corrected this themselves, or is there an option for me to send my Sager back to PC-Torque or Sager themselves to give the laptop a once-over and correct the problems?

You might try PMing ARW as he has the Service Manual for the 8890 and might send you a copy. 2nd Post in this thread: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=127884.

Sounds as if the fand may just have stopped working or has been "gunked up" to much to pass air effeciently (or "hair clogged").
