Intel UNDI, PXE s.0 build 082 error message on Packard Bell easynote - help!

Hi,

I have an easy note packard bell laptop about 15 months old, runniing Windows XP home - so far no problems. It suddenly won't run Windows, and gives a repeating message:

Intel UNDE PXe 2.0 (build 082) Copyright C 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

SIS 900 PXE BootRom v11.09b Hook Int18 etc.

I have read up on re-setting BIOS default settings, have done this, and it still does not run Windows - just a repeat of this message - I also have read that the hard drive may be defunct -

I can't re-install windows XP home, since this was loaded on the laptop with no recovery/emergency disk provided at time of purchase - Can anyone help?

It appears that the system was once part of a network and is trying to boot from the network card. Under boot settings in bios change from network card to C:\ if that doesn't work then the hard drive may be dead. If this is the case you can order a new drive and an OEM copy of XP to reinstall.

Hi Pharoke,

Many thanks for your message - Yes, I took it for repair after no joy with fiddling with BIOS changes, and they confirmed the hard drive is dead - I have ordered a new drive - but am not sure what you mean by 'OEM copy of XP to reinstall' (sorry for my ignorance - I did check with the repair place if they would include a re-install disk of XP Home edition, which was installed on my original laptop, but no emergency restore disk came with it upon purchase - is this what you are referring to?)

Thanks again for your reply - can't understand what caused drive to die though -
