video card looks a little different..........

I'm still hopeful... check out these two pages in particular:

vs.

The m1710 card looks slightly bigger in the lower left corner of the card (doesn't have the notch), but the screws all seem to be in the same place, as well as the LCD connector.

I guess only time will tell...

Im not. Look at the white plug there, around the bottom left corner of the two cards. that of the m1710 is further left, more space for the 7900 gtx, wheres a 7900 gtx in a m170 would cover that white plug.

I think it fits. Now we need an expensive test volunteer to tell us for sure.

I think the cards may work in the 1705. Maybe it will be the new 9300. I would be very surprised if the XPS 1710 doesn't use the same basic motherboard.
It uses the m90's. The m90 supports the 7900 gtx. Or at least I'm confident it does. Note how it supports 4gb RAM, just like the m90 .
Only time will tell, hopefully in a couple of weeks we'll know it for sure
post #9 of 15
It might fit the xps M170, however the white plug has been moved over to the left about 1" in order not to be covered on the M1710 board. You can tell by it's placement near center of the chipset.

As soon as I can get spare parts to let me purchase one I'll try it.

Didn't anyone see my thread here: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=146401
?

Yes a 9400/E1705/M1710 form factor vid card will COVER this connector. You need to probably remove the connector and solder directly with LONG wires since you'll essentially be tying the top cover to the bottom casing.
I don't know. When connected that wire doesn't stick up all that much. I know I can make it work. I just need to get them to sale me a card. Anyone have a parts list for the M1710 yet?

7900 GTX

6800 Vanilla

7800 GTX

The 7800GTX and the 7900GTX look quite similar, however, the white thing magbarn says may complicate everything

I'm pretty confident in my moding ability that I can make that card work in my M170. I just need the card to prove it.
