Targus XL packpack... (or any 17" backpacks)

Thread Starter
I am looking for a good backpack to use with my XPS Gen 2 and have heard a lot of good work about the Targus XL but one thing I noticed is it has absolutely ZERO!!! padding I got to check it out at our local CompUSA and out of all the backpacks the Targus XL was the ONLY one there with little or no padding.

My question is do any of the users her that have the XL notice discomfort or problems with no padding?

Second, can anyone link some 17" backpacks that are somewhat cheap but with good padding? I can find some with a simple search but looking for people who actually have some.

Thanks ahead of time

Take a look at the Kensington Contour backpack.

I saw a really nice bag at Microcenter, it says HP on it but it was only 30 dollars. Fine me another bag that's made of the same material and holds 17inch wide notebooks for 30 dollars, and I'd be surprised I find it to be a steal.

I know for a fact it holds 17inch notebooks I own it.

The Kensington Contour backpack is a perfect fit. Lot of room and pockets. Not so stylish though and falls a apart easily. After six months, my zippers broke and the threads all came apart. Kensiginton replaced it for free because of the lifetime warranty. My second is already starting to fall apart again. I figure in four or five more months i'll just call kensiginton and they'll replace it again.

Kensington Contour backpack.is the way to go. Definiiatly better than the targus, more padding, better looks, 17" lappys full it up to the brim, my inspiron 9300 loves it.

It doesn't really seem to have nearly as many pockets as my Dell 8200 bag has.

I'll second this.....plus the bag feels light on my back even loaded to the gills.

I've had the Targus for a year now. It isn't showing many signs of wear despite everyday use. I guess its pro's are being well-built and REALLY big. Fully loaded, its size can be a problem on airplanes--gotta jimmy it around to get it under the seat. I havn't had any discomfort problems, but I wouldn't wanna wear it more than a couple hours fully loaded.

if you absolutely want a backpack, then

but if you ever considered a carrying case the targus deluxe case, originally $60, is on sale for -$0.01 plus tax.

here's how.

I got the Targus Los Angeles--->http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834999898, it's got nice padding (not very thick though but enough in my opinion), good amount of space for additional battery, my G7 wireless mouse and power adapter

I have a Targus XL and use it all the time.

i own the targus XL 17in. I love this bag as well. I think it has enough padding and mine is use everyday. Unless your a complete clutz then you shouldn't have any issues at all with it. I have been using mine for 4 months and it still looks new after everyday use traveling.

I owned the Targus 15in model previous to this one and it looked like new after 3 years of use so I stuck with Targus for that big reason.

Good Luck on your bag hunt.

There are other ones that hold the 17 inch laptops (like the swift) but they don't have much room for else. They are nice though because they are hardshelled.

What are you talking about the targus doesn't have any padding, it has plenty. I even dropped it yesterday with my laptop inside on concrete and it's perfectly fine. I would definitely recommend it.

I think he meant that the targus didn't have much padding on the straps so after awhile on your shoulder its not that great. not laptop padding to protect the laptop.

i'm also looking to get a laptop backpack not really sure on which one. the hp one looks decent for the price but not sure how it holds up and is microcenter reliable?

On thing I have noticed with the Kensington Contour BP is that my 9300 sticks about 3/4" above the paddinig on the inside and the corner gets slightly clipped by the zipper.

It also doesn't have as many pockets as the Dell backpack that came with my 8200 does. Im not sure I like this one.
