My New D820

I just got my new D820 and it's even better than I expected.

I have no complaints yet. Mine hasn't gotten hot at all yet, as another user had said. Just warm. The screen is perfect and i'm happy I went with the 15.4 instead of the 14 D620. If you're in the market for a latitude go for it! If you have any questions about it just ask.

Did you go with the 6cell or 9cell? If 9 cell, how is the weight? How long is the battery lasting? Got pics?

Grats on the new machine.

The pictures are not showing.

I got the 6 cell. It lasted about 2 hours while I was on the phone with Dell. (My hour glass keeps flashing) I know theres another thread about it around here. Anyway, I'm reinstalling windows, even though the latitude barely comes with anything.

What do ya'll want pics of? I have my camera here and will take requests. I take back my 2 hour battery life too. It was in the range of 2:30-2:45

And performance is quite impressive. Im not a gamer but I threw Quake 4 on it for the hell of it and it ran it like a champ. I have the 512 MB 120.

Just got mine too and I'm in the process of installing programs and copying lots and lots of applications file.

Here is brief run down from a diehard Thinkpad user and former owner of a D810.

The keyboard and trackpoint are extremely important to me and I have to say, they have made some HUGE improvements. The trackpoint is as good as that found on a Thinkpad right down to a flattening of the rubber cover with a textured top to make it comfortable to use for extended periods. The buttons for the trackpoint are vastly improved and more ergonomic to use.

I love the feel of the keyboard - perhaps even better than that of a Thinkpad. I'll have to see how it is after a little breakin period, but it is very very nice.

Weight is excellent for a 15.4 inch laptop. I have a Sony FE570 and it is comparable. The FE570 is the lightest weight 15.4 inch laptop I've ever used.

LCD is very good... I actually think it could be brighter, but keep in mind, it's not a glossy screen.

The new form factor is another HUGE plus. Much nice to deal with and I am so glad I got the 820 instead of the 620.

I'll take some pics tonight and get them uploaded... but as far as I'm concerned right now, the Thinkpad is going on the back burner... perhaps even ebay.

I got an EVDO card so tomorrow I call Verizion to see how to get that working.

Yeah, i'm really happy too but the screen is really dark. Isn't there a way to increase the brightness? And i'm EXTREMELY happy I chose the 820 over the 620. I don't think I would be as happy with the 620.

What resolution are you guys running?

I have the WSXGA+ 1680x1050 and I really like. Its not too big and I think the 1920x1200 would have been too small.
I'm thinking the WUXGA is going to be too small too. I'm sort of wishing I hadn't gotten it, but we'll see what it looks like tomorrow.

Posting didn't work.

Why aren't they working? They should be right and work for me. They're posted online too.

Is the EVDO card mini pci or mini pci express?

They work if I copy/paste, but they wont hotlink for some reason.

How are the speakers, I'm not crazy over their placement, but maybe they work better along the keyboard?

They're fine. Not exceptional, but not at all bad. They're just about average for a laptop, but i'm satisfied with them. Wayyyy better than the 620 monospeaker though.

the 620 only has one speaker? Thats crap...
