laptop graphics Warning-Stupidness inside.

OK, I was reading where someone needed an addon sound card for 5.1 sound and it got me to thinking (not a good thing most days).
Why is it not possible to make an addon videocard that would plug into the same pcmcia? port? Seems like that would be just as intelligent as doing sound from that port.
Someone tell me why I'm dillusional on this because it makes very good sense to me.

its because of the design of the port, there is too little space for one in addition to the amount of bus allocated to it being insufficient for a video card. at least that is how i understand it based on the explaination that i was given about why it wouldnt work.

two expensive

takes up space

no universal standard

no interested from graphics manufacturers (yet)

It probably would be pretty expensive.
External sound takes up space too.
Would be pretty neat to have a standardized graphics port.
Might not be very feasible but I would bet they would sell like hotcakes.

the really wouldnt work for the other reason that there is no hookup inside the actual laptop for the screen or to allow for the other ports... it is a great idea but it just doesnt work that way...

They could, they have them for USB ports (its not great, but it is a video card):

Yeah, its bad - but I would think a PC-Card port would have more potential for bandwidth than a USB port, its never going to get made but an external GPU that plugs in the PCCard port would be interesting
