Disk check interrupting whilst working

Hey there,
whilst using my acer 1640 for general email and other misc apps, dick check interrupts and starts to perform its task.
Its happened a few times and once it even rendered the lcd screen inoperable upon reboot..
Upon taking it to the repair shop, they replaced the motherboard.
Now i have just got it back and its done it twice again during normal operation.
ie; viewing slideshow in Picasa2 and using Outlook????
Its weird because you would normaly do it manually from the tools area in drive propertires and would require you to restart and it would take place at boot up.
But to have it cut in when im just using the computer is crazy.
Any ideas why it wants to automatically cut in and perform disk check??

that is strange its as if its being called by another application
double check for spyware and viruses

check your startup [start - run] then type msconfig
check to see if its loading anything that would call a disk check

do a diskcheck /F from command prompt to make it sort out the c drive on the next boot

Is it FAT32 or NTFS partition?

you may also check if the disk check is not in the "scheduled tasks" menu!

It looks like you have some lost files - computer detects disk inconsistency and tries to fix the problem. Usually, you should get a message before... Try to run test at system startup and check out some disk repairing tools if it doesn't help. Doublecheck system with different AV scanners. I would convert to NTFS, it's more stable.
