Hi, sorry this has been posted quite late after everyone elses! wondered what you guys think. used jimbob's rep (thank you!) to get the original deal. rung up next day to go ahead but he was ill so after a whole day or trying to sort it out, I finally got somebody to speak to who sorted it out. so not too impressed with the service so far (apart from jimbobs rep).
anyway, think got a good deal in the end, what you think?

Tc2001, looks good to me. You have 3yr Multi, MCE, remote, backpack and McAfee. Nice.

I don't think he has been in the office since Friday. I hope he is ill (not seriously of course!) and hasn't got into trouble because of all the guys asking for his contact details! My main concern is someone phoning up Dell and saying 'why can't I get it for the price that XYZ got it for'. I remember last year I got a good deal from a rep called Samuel Veerasingh or something like that. I posted my price and some guy who paid more phoned up Dell and complained!

I ordered an m1710 last week (19/05) and on the orderwatch thing it says it's still in pre production yet the delivery date is in two days. How long will I have to wait? Not having a working computer is killing me, I'M SO BOOOOORED
post #104 of 176
Not good to hear - maybe he has just taken a holiday with all the commisions he has made! ?

No Seriously, I hope he is ok and that he's not in trouble..

r4b - .. there seems to be a delay mines been in preproduction since the 19th. - did you use JimBob's rep?
zek - Yeah, I did. Pre production since the 19th
post #106 of 176
Ordered and in pre-production since the 10th, looks like there has been a rush of orders and components are in short supply. The delivery date has been delayed twice and is currently 31/5/06.

I also ordered through JimBob's rep but seriously doubt whether that would have any bearing on the delivery dates. I have my order confirmation and the Dell t&c's clearly state that it counts as a contract to purchase.

Quite a few of the guys on the rock forums (www.rockforum.co.uk) have gone with M1710 over the CTX. I was going to get a CTX myself up until I managed to snag a deal on the M1710.

Not exactly in a great rush to get my new laptop seeing as my finals start in a week and a bit. As long as it's here by the time my exams finish I'll be a happy chappy.

I ordered on the 11th (same rep as JimBob) - the due date has now (for the second time) been pushed back - to June 12th!

A month delivery - thats a bloody long time in terms of notebook life.

Intel are expected to drop their processor prices at the end of this month, if this reflects on the xps range and im still waiting im gonna try and get a rebate or something.
Yep - could be an advantage this delay... at least that's what I am telling myself....

Variable Dates!!

Well when i originally got a quote from jimbobs rep on 19th may, quote said would arrive by the 30th may. i place the order on 22nd may - says will arrive 9th june!!! then they screwed that order up so then got another order reciept on 23rd may and said would arrive by 12th june. takes the p*ss really!! however, do have it in writing from dell and verbally by two reps that it was most likely to arrive in 7-10 days.

'Dear Sir,

Keeping the leadtime in consideration, We need10 working days Approximately to Deliver the system. '

Not holding out hope, but what you reckon? out of interest, everybody that is still waiting, did they order the 100gb 7200rpm drives? apparantly they are short on them at the moment?

anyone else find it hard to hear the dell reps over the phone? so not only are some hard to understand, also hard to hear them!!

I had similar delays for my last two machines. I bought them within a couple of weeks of release and the dates were pushed back a number of times. Same thing happened to a bunch of other people. Its simply to do with the demand, so I'm not surprised that my M90 has been in pre-production since the 11th, estimated 30th. Nothing to do with the rep. I know it is annoying, but I'm not sure how much we can complain given the price that most of us got them for

TC2001: I ordered the 100gb 7200rpm too
Just checked and now the delivery date has been pushed back to the 28/6. I don't know if i can wait that long as i really need this laptop for work + by that time the 2.33 ghz yonah should be arriving as the top chip.
Well the initial reason for the delay as JimBobs rep told me was because of the memory - I was told it will be a 10 day delay. It would make sense that the further delay would be caused by the drive - I also ordered the 100GB 7200 rpm drive.

With regards to Yonah - not too fussed as will be swapping to a merom when the price goes down for the chip...

It is a frustratingly long time to wait but then again as JimBob said, for the price we are getting these (whereas other notebooks which are close in specs are at least £2100 or above) then I suppose it's worth it. They must have been really caught short by the demand....

BTW I know the rep is definitely not in GB (SA?) as everytime he has phoned me an international number comes up... Might be the reason why they are so hard to hear....

EDIT: talked about the wrong chip!
Jimbob - Can i ask you what spec and price you paid for your M90, its a laptop im looking into at the moment, and what if any discount you got.

Cheers
Yeah we can't complain at the great price we got them, (and i won't ) I wonder what is definately causing the delay though.

Same here - but there is a small glimmer of hope. On another thread someone said they had a due date of the end of May (after being pushed back twice) but got his lappie end of last week - so maybe they are over-estimating - saves having to push back the date again?....

Ireland I believe.

As mentioned, I've been through this whole thing a couple of times. I've had dates move out so the machine would take a month, then suddenly jump back, then forward, then back! A yo-yo computer! I think they took about 3 week in the end, which is entirely consistent with my estimated delivery date. They'd better get a move on though. It is a bit soul destroying checking every day only to see "pre-production" time and again

They seem to ship in waves just after they have been released. I think once one of us moves into production we'll all start moving. Who'll get theirs first? Place your bets I'd be interested to hear whether anyone else who ordered an M1710 around about the 11th of May in the UK has received theirs yet.

I got a call from Dell Earlier, but as with all offshore call centres you have a hard time understanding what the hell they are saying - I did manage to catch june something im sure it was june 1st but could have been 21st or 31st...

You got that right

Hopefully this will give people some hope. Mine is now in packing and I can actually access the packing slip. So I guess we all should be expecting our order a lot sooner than estimated....
