Windows XP NON SERVICE PACK and Windows 95/98 installing on the E1705/9400

Thread Starter
Does anyone know how in the world or if you can install Windows 98 (Second Edition or Non Second Edition) and Windows XP (NON SERVICE PACK VERSIONS) and/or Windows 95 on the E1705/9400?

I realize the hardware install errors comming from NON Service Pack 2 Windows XP installers are coming because it doesnt have the required SATA driver.

BUT, I want to be able to install one or all of the operating systems listed above, as I have special software thats requires these OS's. I never really needed the requirement on my older PATA Hard drives in my laptops - but now I DO!!!! (just great)

Is it possible to put the SATA driver into the install into one of these OS's, and is it possible to install these operating systems at all on such new hardware like this?

Thanks!

Buy a program called Virtual Pc, you'll be able to run Windows 98/95 Unix, anything u want under a windows XP. We use it at work to run Windows 98 in some workstations we have here at work.

There is absolutely no driver support in any way for the 945 chipset, audio, video or anything else for Windows98. Basically you can insall it but nothing will work.

Some sort of VMM would be the best idea.

For XP, you can provide a CD or floppy with the SATA drivers you need during the setup phase of the OS install, which should allow you to install older versions of XP. For Win9x, you might have to go for the Virtual PC solution that has been suggested already. MSFT sells the software for under a hundred bucks.

Running some virtualization is definatly the way to go, unless you need real drivers in win95/winxp preSP2 it more than good enough, plus it's alot of fun
A free and opensource alternative to vmware and virtual PC is qemu at http://www.h7.dion.ne.jp/~qemu-win/

drivers!

windows 9x drivers simply don't exist for most of the hardware in these computers. that's why the topic of virtualization is being discussed.

Definitly get one of the following.

VMWare
Microsoft Virtual PC
Both of these are PC Emulators. It makes a 'virtual' PC from within your PC. COmplete with sound, network, video, etc. You can then load whatever OS you want on this 'virtual' PC. The nice part is being able to alt-tab between the 'virtual' PC and the main PC.

I just took a look around and the chipset that is on the E1705/9400 does not have SATA drivers for Windows 95/98.

Still confused what software you might have that needs Windows 95/98. Windows XP should run any old software that ran in Windows 95/98 in compatability mode.

Have you tried installing this software and right clicking on the .EXE file which start's the software and choose the compatibility tab? You can click the compatibility button and choose which OS you want the EXE to be most compatable with.
