Dell E1505 Final Configuration Questions...

Thread Starter
I'm more than likely going to be ordering this beauty of a laptop this week, and I have most everything figured out already but I have a few things that I need to straighten out still. My configuration as of now looks like this...
Intel Core Duo processor T2500
XP Media Center
15.4 Wide Screen SXGA+ with TrueLife
Free 1GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 533 MHz
ATI X1400
80 GB 5400
8X CD/DVD Burner
Intel PRO 3945 and Dell Bluetooth
85 WHr 9-cdll battery
1 Yr at home service warranty
Remote for XP Media Center (to put me over $1999)

All that for $1280.98 shipped to my door. I think it's a pretty good deal, and should cover my needs very well. However I wanted to double check a few things. First off, of those people out there with this screen how many have problems with graphics being distorted and pixelated? And number two...what are the differences between XP Media Center and XP Home?

Any suggestions are always welcome. Thanks
post #2 of 14
F1shy,

the distorted/pixellated graphics problems people have been having are (generally) the result of a DPI setting. this can be corrected in display properties. i never had this problem personally, because i never used the default installation. easy fix, anyhow.

XP MCE is essentially an enhanced version of XP Pro, with media center software. it's pretty good, actually.

also, don't forget to use the stackable $100 coupon: 43shs371z9m09r

It kinda does not seem worth it for the @ home service, but to each his own. If you opted not to you could get the 80 gig 7200.

I also used fatwallet.com and got another $42 off after they gave me $5 for igning up and 3% of my order. So my total was

$1182 shipped

imo pretty rediculous considering this thing is jammed packed to the gills. I doubt I would find a better deal for a few months or so. Oh and total was like %45 off with the fatwallet figured in. Good luck with your purchase, I am already highley anticipating mine.

btw the $35 off $300 does NOT stack if you use the $100 off $2,000 or more. just an FYI as I purchased it off ebay for $1.

you could build one nearly identical to mine for a good price:

before discounts, this puts the system at exactly $2000. for my own system, i went with the 120gb 5400 rather than the 100gb 7200 not only for the extra 20gb, but also for the extra battery life. i could've opted for the GMA950 for even more battery life, but i do want to be able to play some games.

^^^^

not bad but i definitely feel and notice that laptop hard drives are a HUGE bottle neck. thefore I prefer the 7200 rpm drive even if it does eat up a tad but more battery everything feels a lot faster imo. but yeah that is a nice config that I acutally considered ( the remote and 3945/bluetooth) but in the end decided I didn't want to waste my time doing the hard drive upgrade etc.. when I got over 40% off the total anyways.

I ordered!

Just ordered the following configuration. Thanks to you guys I got the $100 coupon that I had never seen or heard of. I decided to go with the 80 GB 7200 drive, and keep the operating system the standard XP Media Center. Now I just have to wait for it all to ship (estimated shipping date is April 27th) and then start the fun of making all the bloatware go away...hmmm to format or not to format! I choose format!!!

How is your price $1353 out the door? The carrying case and the on board wireless bumped you up that much?? That's over $100 for both of those huh? But yeah it looks nice, identical to mine cept you got the on board wireless and bluetooth. Good selection of items!!
Nice. And as far as the WSXGA screen, mine is absolutely gorgeous! No light leakage, no pixelation or screen door effect, it's just perfect and bright. If you get one with a LG you'll love it, not sure how the Samsungs are on the E1505. Good luck, I'm sure your system will be there soon, I got mine in 7 days from order.

good config, definitely format.

hell, partition like i did if you don't care about mediadirect. (get those extra few gigs back!)

Well the wireless card bumped it up $49, and the bag was another $50, add in the fact that your tax rate is probably different for your state, and that it was at a lesser value to begin with, and it's pretty much the exact same configuration, just I added a few things. Also I didn't mess with fatwallet discount so that was another $42 that you got off the price that I didn't. That's where our differences are! Where's your laptop in the production process...mine already says boxing!
