M570U vs. Dell M1710

Thread Starter
Since the M1710 just came out on the Dell.ca website I found that it was the same price that I was waiting to pay for the M570U. The M1710 has better specs but Ive heard some people say they do not like Dells. The main difference is the 512mb 7900 gtx go. I was wondering if you think it is worth getting the Dell over the Clevo/Eurocom(Canadian).
Probably not. I personally think the dells feel and look cheap. I used one (my brother has one) and just didn't like it especially compared to my 5720. The 7900gtx isn't that much better than the 7800gtx. Not a very significant increase in performance for the price. Also, who's to say that the new sager will not offer the 7900? It would make sense to me that it would have it as an option... but who knows right

How does the X1800 in the M570U compare to the 7800GTX (*not* the 7900 gtx) in the 5720?

They are about the same. RockDirect's offering them both for the same price. I would not want to get the m1710. Too expensive for the hardware.

From Eurocom, the M570A is ~$2600 with what i want and they told me the M570U would only be ~$100 more. The M1710 on Dell.ca with the same specs as the M570U is also $2700.(All in CAD) The Dell has better specs at the same price but Im not sure of the quality of Dell. ANd from Eurocom they are not offering the 7900. Ive been talking with them. Id order from Sager but the Eurocom store is only 2 hours away.

there is a big difference betwee the 7800gtx and the 7900gxt.. effectively a 2000 3dmark2005 point

also i had dell and i had sager 9860 and i can tell you that dell doesnt feel cheap far from that. next time when you make a comment try to be not biased.

Wow, that is a great price for the M570U with a 7900 gtx. Especially with a 5% student discount. Definitly getting this over M1710 since they changed the 7900 GTX to GS on the canadian site without changing the price.
We had a dell xps too. And yes it felt cheap compared to the sager/clevo. And there is very little improvement 3dmark wise for the 7800gtx to 7900gtx... I have seen 8500 from the 7900gtx in 05... that isn't much more than what k1tty got.
Deffinitely not 2000 pts.
She wasn't being biased, she was giving her very experienced opinion.

Nope its not a typo
From what I have found out at this time, 7900GTX 256mb is the current available option.
Hopefully they can make it 512mb sometime soon though.

I personally was hoping for an X1900XTX for my M570U

PS:
From what I understand, Eurocom.ca is very overpriced ...

she was bisaed because dell are very sturdy laptop. i even have one which is 6 years old and still work like a cahrm. yes the m170 i have one, it is sturdy... it doesnt feel cheap. the 9860 doesnt feel cheap either as i had one before.

the 78000gtx score 6600 3dmark2005 in the m170.
the 7900gtx in the m1710 socre 8600 3dmark2005. both score are stock clock. so yes it is a difference of 2000 if you count right !!!!

rofl you are apparently clueless......
look in my sig for my 7800gtx 3dmark05 score.
i used an xps m170 for about a week, it felt cheap to me... and dell locks their video cards which sucks ....

you can get 650 off of the dell xps 1710 if you talk to the small buisness people and tell them that other people are getting 650 $ off

From my searching eurocom is slightly overpriced but it being like 2 hours away from me and a 5% student discount the price is reasonable.

Ps. The 7900 GTX you are talking about that got 2000 more you sure it isnt a 512 mb?

Dude, why are you being so hostile here?
You are somehow reacting as if Dell is your GF/Mother/etc and they just attacked her.
The thing here is people are just stating what they have experienced with the product.

Great that you like your Dell and how it has performed.
But there are also some people here that have less than quality product and service from Dell also.

I know my friend just received his M170 just a couple of weeks ago.
You know what, he asked for a refund a week after he used it.
He told me it was one of the worst quality machines he has ever touched, customer service are a waste of time and just to stay clear from Dell.

But of course there are those few that has had good service and quality from Dell and for them I say great!
But there is absolutly no need to attack someone because their experience with a product is so much different than yours.

i was not bashing anybody but i'm sorry when you experience a laptop for less than 1 month then you dont have enough experience to do a jusgement call. i had dell for 6years now so i'm wntitle to jusge because i had about 5 of them. i also own gateway, acer and toshiba.

i also will let you k now that when i received my sager 9860, i had to return it for a new screen because it was bad out of the box which never happened to me wit dell.i still like my 9860 but it was too heavy to travel, that's why i have a m170 now but you dont see bashing sager do you...

that's the kind thing i was talking about, you dont bash something you dont own or uderstand. and please stop teh dell bashing, they are a godd company like sager is and their laptops are top nothc if you give them enough time to like them. soory if i hurted kiityh or you, it wasnt my intention.
