What process stage is your new M1710 in? Shipping date? - Page 4

I seriously doubt it. Isn't DX10 coming out around or with Vista which is scheduled like a year or more away from now? I wouldn't count on it without bigtime modifications if it will even work at all.

We will see though.

XPS Gen 2 - able to go to 7800 and possibly 7900
M170 - seems able to go to 7900 - haven't checked the thread lately

Based on the track record, at least 1 GPU upgrade is usually an option in the XPS series, sometimes 2 upgrades. Thus, since they are making quite a bit of $$ selling us $500 videocards and the resulting fame of their notebooks based on that, it's safe to guess that the G80 should fit in the 1710. I bought one based on this likelihood so that's my confidence level.

Could the G80 give us insolveable issues? Yes, it could generate too much heat or it could use too much power or it could be only 5% faster than a 7900. But these are unlikely. Why? Because Nvidia is making so much money on mobile GPU's they put that in their financial results. If they are making money, they certainly aren't going to ignore those of us looking to upgrade. Dell just has to be accomodating, and I think they will be.

So yes I'm planning on the G80 route myself. Yes I believe strongly enough that it will be an option that I bought the 1710.

G80 will be much faster than 5% over the 7900, and if it isn't, then ATI deserves to shine.

I agree, however, I'm conservative in what I envision for the future. 6 months ago the 7900 was going to be 700mhz minimum (desktop) and it never hit that. The G80 was going to be totally a new design, now it's dual core and a "modified G71". So I'm trying not to sound all "50% more speed" when it might not be. I think it should be much faster and via partly design and partly driver it will meet the DX10/WGF 2.x spec. However, when someone asks "what are you pretty sure will happen" I try to keep from hyping too much. It's always much better for someone to be pleasantly surprised 6 months down the road then to have them displeased and feel I led them astray

Mine is still unchanged also, ordered Friday and mine is black. Why would some move quicker then others.?
I am in the Dell Chat with Support Que now, to see if there is a delay? Ahh must have more patience..

First off I'm being sarcastic in Dell hating me That's not always apparent in text.

Secondly, I'm interested in what you learn from chat. I recall from other posts on the 170, that sometimes the process is not updated and people have had notebooks show up at their doorstep that don't show as completed yet. I'm wondering if you find out that it is in some later stage if you chat to find out the status.

It just seemed from early notices (like the Bal'thazar had his already ) that the black ones were moving out faster. If that turned out to be true I wasn't THAT attached to the red, lol.

Funny thing is I'm starting to wonder if I'd enjoy that personalization shield which I didn't order. Guess I'll have to track one down if when I see the red I start to wonder what it might be like to customize the look some, like having a blackened shield that perhaps just let the red show through in flame cutouts kind of thing. Dunno, just has the creative side of my brain wandering is all. That red looks like it's gonna be a bit on the too bright side out on my deck in the sunlight. Poor neighbors...

Okay they told me, that mine is only slightly delayed because I used Dell no interest financing and that takes a few days for them to release the order since I ordered mine Friday later afternoon and Dell FInancing is closed then until Monday AM.. Mind you I have had an account with Dell for years, and never had a problem. It was approved immediately but Dell Financing still releases it into production. They claim they will expedite it. Maybe that is why some are faster then others. People who paid by CC are probabkly moving ahead a little quicker. As I said the purchase was approved online immediately, but this is usual seeing as how big Dell is. I expect come monday, things will start to move next week.

Ahh that would explain it, cause I used my DPA account as well for the 0% financing deal.

Oh well, hopefully they will expidite then tomorrow since DFS is not in on the weekends....

Thanks for the reps, Gee I am not red anymore..
Well I was told for existing accounts I'd have to call Dell credit and ask for the 0%, and since it isn't going to sit on the CC for long enough to matter, I didn't bother with that time wasting. So I charged to my own CC and I'm delayed too, so that's odd indeed.

Gonna have to chat with them it seems. hmm...

I really just hope that some how some way I get this before 5/5, as I have a BIG LAN that weekend in MD, and would love to show up there sporting my M1710 instead of my desktop rig (in sig).
