Safe laptop temperature

I just bought a new e1505 with a 256 video card and a gig of ram and a duo core. The temp is pretty steady at 120 F/49C. What temp should I start to worry about damage. It gets as high as 125 when I play FEAR. should i worry? Thanks

How do you find out the temp?

These cpu's can go to double 120F/49C safely.

To monitor temps you can use, in observer mode, i8kfanGUI from http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/ or NHC (notebook Hardware Control) from http://www.pbus-167.com/chc.htm.

i dont have a computer of that performance, but according to the program i have (on my I8200, 1.6p4, 64mb nvidia) it usually stays at around 60 celcius (140f) if i let the dell bios run the fans, occassionaly it reaches around 70C (158F) when playing (lol) medal of honor AA. I use the program to keep both fans on LOW at it remains between 42-50C (108-122F)

You can find that out by using a program that can read a SMART drive or something like that. So I shouldnt' worry about damaging my computer at 125?

ski, I have a 8100 as well, and use i8kfanGUi to bring fans on more often as well. I get it to run at 43-50, much like you. I would see 60C as not acceptable, though safe. I agree that lower temps are better - better temps should dramatically increase longevity of the machine. However, the fans on the 8100 are quite noisy, and found there is a low temp (around 44), which it quickly returns to after a second or two whatever the low temp set. Setting the temp too low just results in the fans running constantly, repeatedly returning the machine to the lowest level set with little sustainable improvement in system temp. I don't use i8kfanGUI at present on the M70. It runs most of time at around 50C, and has much quieter fans than the 8100. I am considering its use.

There is an interesting look at safe maximum temps for various processors here: http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm#intel.
