Major issue, can't boot into windows

I loaded up my Sager for the first time in a few months (it's a 5680) and upon boot I'm presentd with the "Windows did not start successfuly" screen then the options to choose safe mode, normal boot, command prompt etc... No matter whichever one I choose the computer then goes to a blue screen

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

REGISTRY_ERROR

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen...

Check to make sure new hardware or software...

If problems contine, disable or remove any newly installed..

Then reboots itself and gets stuck in a reboot loop.

I've tried booting from a windows CD to reinstall and when it begins to check for previous installations of windows the same screen pops up. Can't boot into safe mode, can't boot from a boot disk, can't reinstall windows...

WTF.

i had a problem with one of my laptops not being able to boot (some sort of virus maybe?) and i used the 'ultimate boot cd' from the site below. if you have access to a cd burner, try burning this onto a cd. it is a 50+mb iso image so you will need to burn it as an image, not just burning as a regular file. i was able to burn the image using nero.

hope this helps you,

You are screwed! Its likely something has happened to your machine in those "few months" (wtf - you have a 5680 and you don't use it for months on end?). Perhaps its pissed at being ignored. Or something crawled in there and set up shop, or died. Heck, you could have a couple of generations of cyber roaches in there. Holy crap, what if they have learned about computers, we are all really screwed then.

Or it could just be something's jarred loose or dust has accumulated to such a degree as to pose a heating problem.

I'd suggest opening it up and giving it a thorough cleaning, check all the connections, etc. Then make sure the battery is OK and then give it a whirl. If it still doesn't boot, its time to call SAGER Technical.

I know it really is awful of me to have a 5680 and not use it. It's better than my desktop so it's not like I have something better but...whatever.

I did take it apart and swapped the RAM around, that doesn't seem to be the problem. I use the dual battery setup...now let me get this straight, when using two batteries if everything is fully charged there should be three green lights, the first is AC power, the 2nd is the primary battery and the 3rd is the secondary battery. The first light is green the 2nd OJ (meaning it's charging) and there is no 3rd light at all, not green, not OJ, nothing. I tried unplugging the AC and removing the primary battery and the comptuer DOES run off of the 2ndary battery, but for some reason it's not charging.

Not sure how this could relate to the booting error though.

Never a better time to try Linux :-)

Well the Ultimate Boot CD was exactly what I needed. After checking the HDD for errors and turning up none, I was able to format the drive and reinstall fresh. Under normal circumstances I'd probably be pretty upset at having to format, but considering that I was ready to box it up and RMA it, I'm quite happy. Thanks for the replies.
