Do you guys think if I waited to purchase the Acer Travelmate 8204 in June or July, all of the problems that it has been having would be worked out?

Yeah, sure...

Are you being sarcastic, or are you serious? This is the perfect laptop for me and I really want it, but without the problems. Anyone else have any ideas about this?

Oh, man sorry for posting 4 times. My internet froze up and I kept on pressing Post Quick Reply. Sorry about that!

jaad was being sarcastic.

I can't really comment on correction of the problems. I have a 0601 build and have no issues with it, except the BT mouse going out intermittently, which I expect is a driver issue. The 3312 BIOS that ships now took care of the slight amount of GPU buzzing I had when running the Tokamak demo. The grey line issue appears to continue in current builds, but whether it's an issue for a particular user seems to be a subjective thing.

If you are thinking of getting a machine in June, go and have a look at other brands. It has been almost a half of a year since TM8204 is released and the service centers still "hear about the issues for the first time". Or play a game and try to guess which box will be OK and which one not once you open it. I think by that time, more very comparable systems will be out for reasonable price from better sounding brands with nicer reputation. Jus tmy two cents, but I would not go for the ACER with this model. It is an expensive experience.

How do you think?
I thought that it was the perfect notebook for me also. It could be. There is a chance that they fix some issues until summer... But man, it's Acer - you'll never know for sure...

What comparable systems would be out at this time. Price is not a problem. I need a 15.4 ince WSXGA+ screen with 2.0Ghz Core Duo Processor with 2GB Ram and ATI X1600 graphics card. It should be less than 7 lbs and should have a battery life of 3+ hours. I been searching for a while for this machine, but the only thing I can seem to find is this Acer. Any ideas?

Want really great and long lasting very reliable and stable system? Money is not a problem? There is no question about: Lenovo/IBM T60p - the ine with specs you stated, plus you get WUXGA flexview screen, which ROCKs and chasis you will never break. Ask anybody - all you will hear if money does not come in question is IBM. Or maybe HP - very solid stuff as well. But yes, with ACER you never know. If you get great unit it keeps more less working. If you get "regular" one, you are not gona end with fixing the problems. I mean, you need it for enjoying and work, not for searching and browsing forums to find fixes and patches and ensure yourself the screen is or is not too dim and all this rubbish that definitely should not be on the customers side!!!

No IBM has an x1600. I checked.

Also, where do you see that the T60p comes in widescreen? The only specs I see for that lineup are 14.1 and 15.0.

The only problem with the Thinkpad T60 is the graphics card - it is the ATI FireGL 256 MB card. I have heard that it is basically the same as the X1600, but this is a business card and is not intended for games. That being said, many games, including WoW do not support this card. Other than that, the T60 also does not have a widescreen. Other than these two issues, the Thinkpad would be perfect for me.

Why can't manufacturers just make the perfect notebook with everything that consumers want. It really is not that hard. Only Acer has done this, but even those dumbasses could not do it properly. This really grinds my gears.

I just think that I am going to wait till the near end of my year warrantee and send it in, demanding the best screen they currently have.

By June/July the Ferrari 5000 series will be out. If Acer does the same as it did with the F4000, The X1600 maybe clocked a bit higher and it will have fixes all the small problems. That's the reason I have not switched over yet. I want to see the battery performance on the AMD mobile X2 vs Intel dual core. Intell will still win but if the difference is less than 30 minutes and the Ferrari have a higher clocked GPU, I'll probably go with that.
