I hate them, they don't help at all and they never understand me but maybe this will help

11:04:50 AM CU_Rep_Miguel Welcome to Dell Sales Chat. My name is Migs. I'll be your personal sales agent today, give me a moment to review your concern. Please, don't go away.
11:06:39 AM CU_Rep_Miguel Hi JP, yes the Nvidia 7900gtx is the best graphics card available as of now.
11:06:48 AM You I understand that
11:06:53 AM You My question is
11:07:05 AM You is it the only graphics card we'll ever be able to use
11:07:23 AM You will we be able to upgrade to the NEXT GENERATION of gfx cards
11:07:29 AM CU_Rep_Miguel No
11:07:59 AM You So then what will happen when the DX10 cards are released this summer?
11:08:16 AM CU_Rep_Miguel Yes, you will be able to use the next generation of graphics cards.
11:08:47 AM You and how bout in the e1705, what is the best gfx card available for that system
11:11:01 AM CU_Rep_Miguel 256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory
11:11:15 AM You can the 7800 gtx or 7900 gtx go in the e1705? will future dx10 cards be able to go into the e1705
11:13:07 AM CU_Rep_Miguel Yes, the Nvidia 7800 or 7900 is compatible with the E1705.
11:13:39 AM You the 7900 gtx 512mb is compatible? why isn't it offered as a choice then
11:15:55 AM CU_Rep_Miguel There was a time the video card was offered. There maybe a little preference for the Nvidia for a faster processor, that is why the card is offered only in the XPS 1710.
11:16:55 AM You the 7900 gtx was just released...how could it had been offered in the e1705 11:17:31 AM CU_Rep_Miguel That would be the 7800.
11:17:46 AM You the regular 7800
11:18:19 AM CU_Rep_Miguel Nvidia 7800.
11:18:23 AM You I'm asking about the GTX version of the 7800/7900, are either of them compatible with the e1705
11:18:47 AM CU_Rep_Miguel Yes , both are compatible.
11:19:21 AM You ok

he says the e1705 is compatiable with both GTX versions if that means anythign

No offense, but it sounded like he was just telling you what you wanted to hear. Which sucks, but whatcha gonna do. I'm not sure he understood anything you were asking him.

No offence too but given what I read from the posting, it tells me that either the Dell rep knows nothing or he's just trying to make customers happy. It seems that he is just trying to agree with you on what you're asking & telling you what you want to hear!!! Typical Dell customer service...

you were talking about the GTX he was talking about the gs

point is, you were talking to a rep over dell internet chat.

in my past experiences, dell reps online have little idea about anything in a laptop. someone on here a while back said a rep told him that the x1400 was equivalent to the 7800go.

my point: no matter WHAT, take whatever a dell rep online says with a grain of salt. ill believe it when someone on here (that has actually seen the 1705) puts one in and posts. it will happen, people just have to be patient.

Of the 80+ chats ive done over the internet regarding information ive only gotten 1 knowledgeable rep only because I accused him of misinforming me on one of my orders so clearly this guy didnt talk like one of the dell India reps and was quite concerned of my compliant that I was going to file. Clearly the rep doesnt have a deep understanding of hardware like we do and could easily mistake your gtx for GT or Gs as the other posters suggest.

it will not fit without serious modifcation. Someone tried to put a 7800Go in the 9300 and it did not work. I am guessing this will be the case with the 7900GS and GTX. Just get a 7800GTX. Both cards have the same pipes and vexter shaders. I mean 600 core vs 430-450 is a big jump, but its not major. Example I can run Oblivion at 1900-1200 max details, no shadows but tree shadows, and with Bloom and 2 AA with decent FPS. I have tweaked my config file a bit, but not much.

think the 9300 has had enough upgrades (:

still wish they woulda made something a tiny better than my x300
