Well, I took the plunge, I got a 150 dollars instant rebate, a 50 dollar mail in rebate plus the 50.00 educational discount and a 30 dollar extended warranty rebate. The processor is the 2.0 gig Turion with 1 gig memory, 80 gig HDD, 14" Bright/view widescreen , free DVD/CDRW and a free wireless... The operating system is the home edition.. Tha'ts all I need... this is my second attempt to own a notebook. Last time was with the DV1000 but I received it with a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. So I returned it. Hopefully this one won't have a dead pixel anywhere in the screen or it will go back again.

I'm not into any games at all, occasinally watch a movie when I travel. The wife would be the main user of this laptop for school. She decided to go back to school @48 and she is really doing good. I'm very proud of her!!!

Anyway, what do you guys think? Any opinion about the Compaq Presario V2000Z?

Thanks!

The waiting causes nervous conditions . . . tics, double/double vision, irresistible urges to hit the submit button, etc . . .

Congrats on your choice.

Hello winglik, go to HP shopping.com then on the search box type "academic" then enter. It should take you to the academic purchase program website. Good luck!

Well, I finally received the laptop... It came as ordered! No dead pixel, no scratch and the silver body and black top is quite nice. The junk software that came with this laptop is ridiculous! I have to remove a bunch of them. Overall I'm totally happy with the buy. It looks like it's staying with me for a while. Awesome!!!

Why did you choose a 14" over a 15"???

It's more for convenience!! I kind of wish they have a 12" screen!! I see you have 17" screen! Man, you need a wheel borrow to carry that around. LOL!! Just kidding....

The laptop is for his 48 year old wife to carry to school. Generally women want the smallest possible laptop, especially when they'll be carrying school books which can weigh a pound or so themselves depending on the subject. They don't care about things like screen size when typing papers and surfing the net

Well, after playing a DVD movie with this laptop I noticed that the glare on the screen with this "Brightview screen" is way too much. Anybody else have the same problem? Does the regular screen (non-brightview) has less glare? Just wondering a thought of returning and getting a non-brightview screen...... any comment, thanks!

How come I'm getting the impression that Corrado85 always uses the same tone to express his dislike for HP/Compaq?
