Dell Media Direct 2.0 ... Running on 9300/XPS M170 - Page 18

You need to copy the taskmgr file across during the installation process while drive X is still visible. Otherwise, if you have not yet restarted your computer, it may be possible to assign a drive letter to the new partition through computer management in administrative tools in control panel.

This isn't 'pretty' but should work....

1. Use PTEdit32: Make a note of which row holds the D7 partition values [should be row 3] and change partition type D7 to 07

2. Run Partition Magic

3. You should be able to 'see' the MediaDirect partition

4. Copy the MediaDirect partition [Resize Z if you need to in order to make some 'room' on your drive]; Delete the original MediaDirect partition; Move the MediaDirect copy as you like and resize Z back to the original as desired.

7. Apply your changes and close Partition Magic

8. Using Windows open your 'copy' of MediaDirect

9. Edit/mod the copy as desired

10. Using PTEdit32 edit the Partition Table so that MediaDirect partition values are put back where they were [probably need to move from Row 4 to Row 3 and enter all 0's in Row 4]

11. Reboot and then using PTEdit32 confirm Partition Type for the MediaDirect partition changed from 07 to D7

12. That should be it....

Man, is that site slow. 29kb/sec. Anyone else seeing slow downloads?
Just tried it, was only getting 112kb. Either way though, even at 59k or less its about 1 1/2 hours. Just start the download and go watch some TV or a movie, its really not that bad.

:EDIT: Q56 - You might wanna rewrite your sig, it says "2MB 667 RAM" for the 1710. I think you mean 2GB.
so thought I would pop the question back out there, has anyone tried this on an M90 or other laptop?

Yea that's what I'm doing. I come back to see how the file is progressing every once in awhile.

Thanks, for the sig catch. Would have been a hot rig with 2"MB" RAM (in 1990). I think my hard drive on my first dell (1991?) was only 64MB.

Funny, me and my brother were talking about old school set-ups a little while ago. We have come a long way these last few years.

I havent heard of an M90 success or failure. But I would imagine it would work just fine. I dont think it really matters what model, its just software. Of course, I could be wrong......could be

What happens if your laptop if turned off, and you press and hold the "Play' key on the front media buttons? If its starts your laptop, then I think it just might work!

Nope, link is definately a problem. It's so slow that it crapped out on me 4 hours into the download. It just stalled. I started it again, but I only have 28kb/sec. And I have a broadband connection. I'll wait another day.
Sorry to hear bro! Maybe someone who still has it can upload it again. I deleted mine after burning it to the install disc and uploading it that last time.

Just curious -- What are you using for internet (DSL, Cable, etc)?

I am using Verizon DSL and had to set my MTU lower for the download to complete....

pressing and holding the play key does nothing, but does pressing and holding the play key on other models that didn't come with it turn them on

I'm using DSL getting about 1500 KBits/sec (not bytes). Almost equivalent to a T1 line. I'm getting lower than dial-up speed to download the file.
