The 9300, 6000 and maybe other models available at the same time came with a basic version of Media Direct that would boot them into Windows and launch Media Experience straight away - not really very useful. However, at least it means that they can turn on via the play button for use with MD2. MD2 will not make the play button turn the laptop on if it does not already, although it it easy to add an extra option to the boot.ini file so that you can use MD2.

Hi ,
Thanks for these great threads and info for mediadirect .
I've read all this thread and the following thread too . http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...ht=mediadirect
But still am having problems .
I have an inspiron e1505 , with 2 primary partitions , the first being XP pro , the second is for the mediadirect install , its a full 2gb so size should not be an issue .
I used the RJ262 version , verified by checking the readme.txt file in Program Files\Intel\INFInst folder .
I've edited my boot.ini so that it starts correctly too .
The install seemed to have gone ok , but it hangs when starting mediacenter . I started in safe mode and sure enough , got the following error
*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF9E4f528, 0xC0000034, ...)"
exactly as MarkMcK detailled .
What I don't get is that I have the same laptop as his and presumably the same chipset . [ I tried to check in the bios , it doesn't say there what chipset I have . In devicemanager , under system devices it says mobile intel(r) 955xm/945gm/pm/gms/940gml express processor to dram controller - 27a0 if that's any help ]
At this point I'm stumped , do I need the other version [ DH371] ? And if so are there any links for me to get it ? [ all the links here are for the newer version RJ262 ] Please help . Thanks MC

i just have a few questions to see if this install process is correct for me.

i have a e1705 dell inspirion and when i got my lappie, i went straight for a format and deleted all the paritions that were visible in the windows setup process. did i delete my hidden media direct parition? i've been told that the hidden parition takes some work to get it to be visible so chances are i didnt delete it. i just want to make sure if i still have the hidden parition or not.

also i have a lot of questions. :P if i do still have that hidden parition, will it affect my computer if i followed this topic's installation process? will media direct be 'confused' as to which one to boot from? if i install MD, will the 1.3gb of unparitioned space become a new hidden parition? or will it be visible, and i can just do another window format/reinstall to make my hardrive fresh and new again in case i screw up?

i'm not too familiar with laptops so i want to learn more and make sure i dont #@#% up a newly brought laptop :P thanks for any replies/info!

mini bumpage i'd like to know if this is the right process for me, really want to get media direct working already so i can enjoy my laptop in peace

/edit nm it worked :P that was prolly me being completely overparanoid because i thought i almost @#%@# up my laptop from playing around trying to reinstall media direct.

Would this work, if I installed media Direct 2 onto a USB disk? I have a 4gig disk. Would be interesting if it did work.

has anyone found a way to get DIVX and other codecs to run with Media Direct? Im finding Media Direct doesn't run most codec video files..
^^^ I got Media Direct to work with divx and avi files so far.
You have to ctr-alt-delete and search your CD ROM/USBDISK etc.. where you put teh codec installer while in MediaDirect and run the installer.

I got this tip from the Linux/XP/MD thread on this forum if you want more details, I suggest you look there

Thanks man, where could I find this thread? Reading this thread:
http://www.notebookforums.com/thread159964.html

sounded as if you cannot instal other codecs? I did try and ctrl+alt+del in MD but nothing happened...
For ctrl-alt-del, you must copy taskmgr.exe across to the Media Direct partition during installation (see my posts on this earlier or else the instructions on the first page)....or else unhide the partition using Partition Magic's ptedit and copy it that way.

I really need this media direct 2 installer ISO or ZIP file! I've read the entire forum and both the first link and the second one are down. The first one is just totally gone and the second one says "file deleted due to abuse". I'd really appreciate it if someone could either upload the ISO that they have or make an ISO of their installer disc if you've all deleted the ISO.

Perhaps if storage space is limited you could make a torrent of it with bitcomet? I'd sure seed it for a few weeks!

THANKS EVERYONE!

^^^ You should do a search and read some other posts in this forum (I have personally uploaded it 3x to different sites.... took me half a day for each upload and made my service provider a bit upset as well).

Have fun!

edit... from the PM's I am getting it seems few people know how to use the search function so I will make it easy this one time....... read this thread http://www.notebookforums.com/thread159964-2.html

I am glad one is still working (even if it is slow), its just hard to find a free place that allows 350MB file uploads for free.
