Where do you go on Dell's site to purchase it?

You have to call them. And if you want one. You better do it before the price goes up. Because I believe the price on the 512 card is incorrect. So better to get your order in before they catch on to their mistake.

Dang, I wish someone could find the part # for the 7900 GS. Does anyone know if the 7900 GTX will work in the e1705? (fit without modifications, use the 90w power adapter, and 6 cell battery)

You will need a 9 cell and 130 watt battery. Also Its gonna need its bios flashed.

Tempting. After tax+shipping, that's about what I ended up paying for my 7800GTX (I was an early adopter and got the first good deal for it before the REALLY good deal came along).

But then again it's not a huge leap over the 7800GTX, no new tech introduced, just a minor speed bump that would probably require serious modding if it could work at all in the 9300/Gen2/M170.

I'll either just pass up the 7900GTX completely, or wait until I've seen confirmed, detailed, photographic evidence of it being used in a 9300/Gen2/M170.

Im not going to try to fit it in my xps2. I have a new 9400 I got with the really good deals lately. Im going to put it in that system and probably liquidate the xps if it works.

Update to the latest E1705 BIOS and post a new thread if the BIOS recognizes the card correctly. And I'm sure you already know to bring a 130watt brick and 9cell battery with you. =)

If it works... I'll be liquidating my 9300/XPS very shortly.

o yea dont forget the 130 watt and 9 cell battery, best of luck getting this to work

if it fits no problem i imagine all future m1710 cards will fit in e1705 no problem rite?
does it work.. like can you put it in a 9400 ?

Here's hopes for fitting in an M170. Once confirmed I may make the jump. Maybe.

Anyone take the plunge? I feel pretty confident this will work in a 9300 and 9400. Worse case swap the Heatsink... I wonder if you can buy the heatsink only?
Yea but what about the BIOS? If the BIOS doesn't support the 7900, then we're out of luck. Unless someone can hack the m1710 bios. But that is unlikely since the its a different motherboard.
I just want to know if it will fit in my laptop. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this when they get theirs.

The BIOS probably doesn't matter...it is completely unimportant if the BIOS shows unsupported - it will install under Windows (well, there is a small possibility that there may be compatibility problems with some LCDs, but that is unlikely). The main consideration is if the BIOS knows how much power to supply. As the XPS 2 BIOS supplies the full amount of power to both cards that it was designed for, it is reasonable to assume that it would be able to supply up to that level of power to any other card as well.

the 7900 will fit in a 9400/e1705/xps 1710 with ease, might have to make space in the cpu fan area with the 9400/e1705, however the m170 and 9300's will have a problem with a keyboard peg, and the gpu heatsink might be a little tall, so fair warning...check the thread on the 7800gtx in the 9400 in the core duo forums, the keyboard post is different between the 2 generations which cause some issues, all you need to do is remove it and the rest is easy.
