Last Call For Changes!

After much debate between the I9400 and the D820, I went with the D820 - even though I'm still bothered by its lack of "modern" ports like DVI and SVIDEO (and that it can't play music without booting up windows), its sturdy built and travel friendly dimensions won me over.

I ordered it two nights ago so I think there is still time to change some of the hardware - any suggestions?

I was thinking to downgrade to the WSXGA LCD (1680 X 1050) from the WUXGA LCD (1920 x 1200 pixels) - won't the icons in the WUXGA be too small anyway? Anybody familiar with both?

I could then put the saving towards upgrading to the T2400 (1.86GHz) Core Duo Processor (from the current 1.67GHz setup) - would there be a noticable difference in speed?

(As far as the graphics card and RAM, I would upgrade those specs at a later time).

I appreciate any recommendations.

WUXGA is an overkill. Ive seen all 3 screen types on the 6000 and the WSXGA is the way to go.

Everything is way too small on the WUXGA - IMHO

Why not upgrade to a 9-cell battery?

I love having the 1920*1200 res, you can fit so much on the screen

I have the WUXGA on a i6000d. And yes, it is beautiful and all BUT... everything is WAY to small. It cause hassles, and all the font rigging you can do to increase the size of text still presents problems. If I could, I'd take the WSXGA. my 2 cents.

You can increase the size of the fonts to compensate for the small pixels in WUXGA. Honestly though, out of all the displays I've seen the WUXGA does the best job at displaying at it's non-native res than anything other I've seen. I think it's basically beause of the size of the pixels, they're so small that even running it at WXGA(1280x800) doesn't look bad at all. I know this because my dad has WUXGA on his I6000 and he runs it at 1280x800 and it actually looks pretty good. I mean it's not as sharp as running it native, but it still looks pretty darn good for not being native.

Other than that I think the WSXGA screen is the best for most people. I know I love my WSXGA screen and I don't think that WUXGA would be worth it for me IMO.

As far as a speed difference from the 1.67 to the 1.83, there won't be a big difference, but it will be noticable. It does a few seconds faster in SuperPi to 2mil and it will do certain tasks faster. But, as I remind anyone that thinks about getting the faster Duo's, ask yourself if you're going to upgrade to Merom when it comes out. If you're going to want to upgrade to 64bit and a much faster/more effecient mobile cpu then save your money and put it aside for Merom. It is shaping up to be a pretty amazing little cpu and well worth it to upgrade from Yonah(33% faster clock to clock). That's why I didn't bother to upgrade because I'll probably just get a 1.83 or 2.0Ghz Merom and be amazed at the difference.
