hidden partition does not boot

Thread Starter
hi all,

owner of a travelmate 4064wmli machine.

WhenI got the machine, I neglected to make the acer recovery cd's ( Ill do it next time I kept saying... ) until about 4 weeks later my machine was unbootable. Since I had some data on drive d, I installed a temporary OS in a diff directory in order to get the data back.

Once I started the machine, I saw that there was a "PQxxxx???" partition along with C and D. Logical Disk mgr tells me that this "PQxxxx" is healthy. Acer tells me that this is a hidden partition where one may boot from in order to rebuild the machine with factory settings. My questions are:

1) What is the key sequence that I must use in order to boot from this hidden partition and is there anything in the bios that needs to be setup first? Anyhing else to be aware of

2) Failing this, Acer support wants to charge me over 90Aud$ to rebuild the machine from scratch. Any other way to get hold of these Recovery cd's ??

Thanks

If my memory isn't playing tricks on me, you should go to the bios, and somewhere in there it's described how to use the recovery feature.

The D2D feature should be enabled.

If it it not described in there how to trigger the recovery then try looking during bootup.
My best guess to the key combination would be Alt+F10.

did you try starting the pc in DOS and making it read from that partition! i think the file you could be looking for might be setup.exe! until now i thought this partition was only for verification of the recovery cd-s but obviously it isn't! you may also try looking for the file recoverytool.exe! else i have no idea

This is correct according to the user manual. However on my aspire 3610, this does not work. D2D is enabled, Pressing ALT+F10 at the Acer logo results in nothing. I ended up yesterday going out and buying XP home oem.
