E1505 and 1705 New Video Options

Thread Starter
First time poster here...Been luring for months...Thanks for all your info, Ive learned quite a bit....

ANyone got any thoughts on the new Options

E1705

256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory [add $143 or $4/month3]

256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 7800 [add $239 or $7/month3]

E1505

256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™ [add $143 or $4/month2]

I guess what Im asking is Ive seen alot about the NVida GForce post, threads and such anyone have any thoughts on the X1400 and when coupled with either the 1505 1705? Is the X1400 a new card or just a new option? Any thoughts on where I can find some info on it?

Glad I waited a few weeks, but now Im just as confused...

same question for me too...

Im in the same boat, I ordered this morning and now I am wondering if I should change to the geforce from the ati card. This morning they told me the geforce was not available.

The X1400 has been an option for a while now I believe. It came out on the e1705 first, then the e1505.

I am crossing my fingers and hoping that dell offers a higher end card for the e1505 or one that mine can support

Dont upgrade video card from Dell.com , go to the For Sale section of this site and buy a 7800 instead

If you're going to upgrade later make sure you get the x1400, if you get integrated cideo you WON'T be able to upgrade later as there is no connector in the integrated MB. As far as ATI vs Nvidia, in this case there is no comparison, the Nvidia is about 3 steps up from the ATI card. It would be like comparing a 9700Pro to a x850XT. The x1400 isn't a bad card at all, but it's not going to do heavy gaming on high details like the 7800 can. If you're into gaming, spend the money and get the 7800. $239 isn't a bad price considering how much they're going for on the street, plus the time you take to take apart your new laptop and put it in. Just get it from Dell and don't mess with taking apart your laptop. Unless you like doing that kind of stuff.

How much are the 7800go's going for BTW? I did a quick check in the for sale section and didn't see any.

The 7800Go used to be a $299 upgrade. This is a decent price. If they add it to the E1505, I might end up with a Dell afterall.

I wouldnt be surprised if dell did. As other companies know, not everyone likes carrying around a 17 inch laptop.

I just bought an E1505 with the x1400 in it. What other cards will fit? And also what will the bios handle? Will a 7800 work in these systems? Time to search the forums more as I haven't found my answer. You are the first to mention this.

Unfortunately, a 7800 will not fit in a E1505. The best thing we have right now, as far as I know, is the standard x1400. Until Dell makes a better card, we are sorta stuck.

Well that will do me just fine for now since my desktop rig is decked out. I'm coming from a Gateway 715Pentium-M with Intel 900 graphics. I mainly play online games at work since we have hours of downtime. This card will suffice for a while, as long as I can get it playable with bf2, and D&D online, I'll be a happy man. And by searching over these forums, with a few tweeks it seems to be livable, much better than the 5-12fps I'd get outta the Gateway lol.

But when you add the 7800 to the 1705 as an option is sets the ship date to June 26th
