Notebook screen protector

Just to let people know about these things. When you close your notebook's LCD screen, it touches the keyboard; there will be times when the LCD gets marks from the keyboard. Apparently, they're from the oils in your fingers that adhere to the keyboard which then gets onto the screen. They're ugly, but they're removable, for the most part.

This place is selling screen protectors - i.e. pieces of cloth that cover the keyboard so you don't have to worry about these marks. They're not cheap ($150-$20), and they're made for Powerbooks, but I figured that you can invest a little to keep your top-of-the-line LCD clean.

My screen doesn't touch the keyboard, nor have any on the various other machines I've owned.

But should you get stuff on your screen or anywhere else, try using 3M Cleaning Cloths, they are available at most any supermarket or drugstore. You don't need any cleanser with them. They won't scratch a surface themselves, but they could pick up something that could. So keep them clean too, they are washable, 100s of times.

I absolutely cringe when someone goes ahead and POKES a laptop screen to show something of importance. 1) Oil residue from fingertips leave marks on the screen. 2) Poking the screen so the pixels make different colors isnt too good for the LCD.
My solution to remedy this 'poking the LCD' epidemic is a hefty smack of the offender's wrist or side of the head. It works!!!

Oh, laptop screens are designed with little rubber 'stoppers' which prevent the LCD screen to touch the keyboard, if it did then it would get damaged eventually.

Then it's quite a miracle that I got those marks on there, huh?

Actually, I think it's from applying pressure on the LCD when I have it folded up, which isn't too uncommon.

I just ordered one of those protectors. Spending way too much money...

Ditto your remarks RdLdr1, but I don't cringe, I attack, and its not some smack on the wrist, more like a whack up the site of the head ... ... ... ... with a baseball bat. I keep one with a couple of rusty 20d nails driven through it handy just for such 'thoughtlessness'. I believe in positive reinforcement, it makes me feel good.

Fortunately, one of the reasons I have bought SAGERs through the years has been the TV out port, so most of the time my clients are looking at a TV screen, not my LCD.

why just cover the keyboard, if you are going to spend the money and go through the trouble of using something like that why not use something like this.

My friend cut a Bandana to fit on his Powerbook keyboard. Cost a few bucks and works like a charm.

I've had a 5690 for 4 months now, started school with it 2 weeks ago. case is a Targus deluxe case, holds the laptop and a few (light) books and laptop gear.

After a few days I noticed scuffs/dirt on the screen, the pressure the stuff in the case puts on the cover is enough to bring the two together (if clammed up on a desk and reopened, everything's fine.)

I'm getting a shaggymac, thanks for the pointer :-)
