BF2 locks on my m170 - Page 2

I just go off with dell tech support chat and they sent me this link to turn off DLA in the drive. I haven't tried it yet since my laptop is not with me at work but maybe someone else can try it.

Here's the link: http://support.dell.com/support/topi...&cs=19&s=dhs#1

That didnt help me. You gotta talk them into sending you a new drive. I tried everything with dell tech and ea to get bf2 running but it would just freeze on splash screen. I slapped the new nec drive in and bf2 ran great. Hope this helps. When you call dell take them to this forum and a couple of people had the sam problem on the dell forum. That seem to help me get a new drive.

So you were able to get them to send you the NEC free of charge? I tried 3 times and each time they told they could only send me the same Samsung Crappy drive.

Same exact thing I do

Sure they may be fine for every day use. But for my M170, I actually want to play EA games. And with the samsung, I cant.

get the NEC. End of story.

call dell and ask for another brand of drive. I got the nec drive and it works like it should.

does Dell hassle you guys when you ask for the NEC drive? I'm about to call their tech support and I don't want any hassles. I just want the NEC drive instead of the P.O.S. Samsung.

BTY it makes a ton of noise!

Yes. Use the Dell Chat if your in the US. I tried three times using dell tech phone support and couldn't get the Reps from India to give in.

I just got my XPS (got it off the $1329 deal a month ago) and noticed it has NEC DVD drive so it appears Dell is now putting the NECs in the newly built systems.

Thats interesting you said that because the India Dell rep today assured me that my NEW DVD/CD drive would work great and that he wanted to make me happy. This was after the fact that I requested at least three times about getting a NEC drive or one that is not Samsung brand. All i can say that I better get a drive that is not Samsung.

If your problem is the drive not reading the disc correctly I have a solution if your willing to try it. You need to DL the latest version of a program called "daemon tools" then you need a program that can create a iso file (magic iso is what I use) from here create an iso file of the BF2 installion disc (disc 1) you can do that by opening magic iso then create the iso (this process copies all the contents on the disc and puts it into one file) from here then install and open daemon tools (can also open by right clicking on daemon icon in start up tool bar. Then choose a drive then select mount image then find the iso file that was created then load it. If it works then u can play BF2 w/o disc and w/o the loud noise from the cheap drives. Daemon tools is a program that can create virtual drives that can store iso files inside the drive so basically it tricks the comp into thinking its booting from disk but it really booting from the iso file created from the disc. Let me how it goes or if u need any more instructions

Daemon tools will only work after a system restart. If you quit the game and restart you will get a Microsoft Windows Application error. This is because of the new BF2 patch.

Xps M170, Battlefield 2

It's weird that it is so hard to run Battlefield 2 on the Xps m170 since they offered it with the purchase of the xps m170 on Dell's website itself. If they were going to offer it with this xps they should've used the NEC Drive. I've been chatting with Dell online and calling them and they keep telling me it is a software issue and to call EA. But they are wrong! I've been fighting this out for about a month and I've been telling them that I "personally" know people with the same problem and they received an NEC disk drive by their warrenty and it corrected the problem. They completely reject the idea and say it's not a hardware issue. Now the samsung disk drive especially doesn't run BF2 with the new patch 1.3. So finally I had them take control of my PC and they did petty stuff like deleted cookies and emptied recycle bin (lmao :0) then he uninstalled it and had me reinstall it (only to find out how long it takes..hahahaha) Now I am waiting for his supervisor to research this problem online (I provided them this forum website) and I am supposed to receive a call tomorrow from the supervisor after his extensive research. This is such a pain just to receive this drive...I'm starting to not understand what my warrenty is even good for besides a VERY LOOOOONG arguement. Hopefully they see that the NEC disk drive will correct the problem so I can finally play Battlefield 2 without lock ups. If you don't want to deal with this problem, I'd say don't buy this laptop unless you can get it with the NEC drive. Well I am done venting (that was about a month's worth, if not more), and hopefully I get this drive so I don't have to talk to Dell anymore because if I don't I will be talking to them 24/7. I'm laying here with a broken leg anyway so I have nothing better to do.

I use a program call Game Jackal. Never needed the disc to play the game after the program "reconized" how the copy protection system works. Even if I patch to the 1.3 BF2 version from the previous version, I don't need to teach the game jackal program how to "avoid" the new game protection. I got a NEC drive and it rocks also.
Finally, The supervisor called me yesterday and is sending me an NEC drive for no charge. I tried the Game Jackal for the mean time before I receive the drive but running the game off that, it wouldn't log in to my account. I don't know, I gave up after the first try because there are enough servers still with the 1.2 patch for now until I get the drive.

NEC Disk Drive

Got the NEC Disk Drive in the mail, now I'm wondering how to replace it. Can anyone tell me or give me a website with instructions?
